NT Scan and Gender Reveal??

I keep reading posts about Mamas finding out the gender of their LOs during their NT Scan and it's getting my hopes up that we'll be able to find out as well. Ours is on 8/15 and I'll be just over 12 weeks... When we went with DS the tech seemed kind of irritated when I asked about it and said it would be impossible to tell at that point (I was just shy of 13 weeks). Does the sensitivity of the equipment matter? Those who have found out at your NT Scan was it based on the "angle of the dangle" alone or were you/they able to see something concrete? I'm soooo hoping to find out at ours but am afraid they'll tell me no again...

Re: NT Scan and Gender Reveal??

  • Sorry, I was Team Green all the way.

You may want to head over to the 35+Pregnant board... they're closer to that issue than some of us mommies are.  Heck... I can't even remember being pregnant some days.. .too tired!

  • They can guess pretty early, but they can guess WRONG.  Better to wait until 20 weeks when it is more certain.  Having said that, our tech guessed "boy" at 13 weeks and she was right. Big Smile

It's a guess at any point in the pregnancy but even more of a guess at 11 weeks.
  • When I went in for my amnio, the MFM said, " I can't tell for sure right now, but if I had to venture a guess I'd say that it's a girl". I think he only told me what he thought because I would know for sure in a few days. He was right, but I think it is easier to tell a girl, where as boys are iffy-er at that age.

I am hoping to remain Team Green this time around!

  • we were team green too, but I knew the tech who did the scan and she gave us an envelope with "90% certain it's a girl" written on a folded sheet of paper.  We opened it up after DD was born and I called to find out more.  Supposedly she's been correct all but a few times over the past few years, so they must be able to get a pretty good view.  Of course, I also know someone that was in my breast feeding group who had a 3d scan and all sort of extras and everyone was telling her girl, they went big with pink clothes, monogramed stuff etc. and had a boy.  She was way too young for an NT, but...
  • My guess is some techs have the knack, and enjoy trying to figure it out... and some, not so much.  Maybe you'll get a "fun" tech this time around!

  • My MFM guessed girl at my NT.  Just before my amnio, the tech said that he was wrong.  NT guess was completely based on the angle of the dangle.  At 16 weeks even we could see the goods.
