Cleaning baby mesh feeder

Anyone have one of these?

https://www.munchkin.com/products/detail.html?section=devStages&ID=10010&pID=37

I do and DS loves it, but please tell me there is an easier way to clean it than flipping the bag inside out... I feel like it's never truly clean and I'm wary to use it.

Smushed food gets stuck around the ring on the inside. I've tried seeing if the rings seperate, but it doesn't seem like they do. Maybe I'm wrong.

We tried this but they came out with gross black strings from the banana that was stuck to it.

  • We did the dishwasher, but I didn't like the way it smelled like, well, dishwasher afterward.  So now I just soak it in a bowl of soapy water and it works pretty well.

  • Does the mesh bag detach from that blue rim at all? We have the Baby Safe brand and the mesh bag pops in and out of that rim just like a nipple pops in and out of a bottle collar, it's really easy to wash both by hand and in the dishwasher.

  • I could never get the Munchkin brand one clean. No matter what, it seemed like there were still little pieces (of banana especially) stuck by the rim and around the seam. I started using the Sassy brand ones that come completely apart. The mesh bags are much easier to clean and they sell replacement bags, too.

That's what I was trying to figure out how to do, but it doesn't look like it comes out and I've tried pulling.

Maybe I'll look in to what you and BalancingJane have had better luck with.

  • I looked it up on the Munchkin site, here's what they say:

Do you sell replacement mesh bags for the Fresh Food Feeder?

    A. No, the mesh bag on the Fresh Food Feeder can not be removed for safety reasons. It is permanently attached to the handle.

    Q. Sometimes food gets stuck in the mesh bag of the Fresh Food Feeder. How should I clean it?

    A. Try soaking it in a warm cup of water immediately after usage, then wash it with warm soapy water. You could also use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently scrub the mesh. The Fresh Food Feeder is also top rack dishwasher safe.

Personally, I would rather buy one that can come apart and I can clean properly! This was great to know because I have been wanting to buy one of these.

  • I've heard banana is brutal to get out so I don't put banana in it. But someone did say once to let it dry and it's easier to pull it off that way. Gross, but maybe effective. Then once you get the dried banana off you can wash it.

  • I asked the same question to some girls at work.  1st I was told banana is the worst.  2nd was use the washing machine.  After that rinse in the sink and its good to go.  (We only do this when I cant get it clean by simply scrubbing it out and it works)

THANKS! I was looking for this...

I also like the washing machine method.

This is the only way DS will eat banana by himself. See siggy pic.

Exactly this. It smelled, and tasted, like dish water. I will not put it in the dishwasher again. I fill a bowl with very hot water, soak it, then hand wash it. I've never had any problems with fruit not coming out. But I've never put banana in there.

FYI, I soaked it overnight and scrubbed it this morning. I think all of the dried yuckies came off. I used the mesh bag to scrub the underside of the ring and that worked pretty well.??

    Thanks for the ideas!
