Diaper changing help

Does anyone have any good pointers on dealing with baby that will not lay still when you change them?  Changing my DS has become nearly impossible, he will not lay still, he always tries to roll over.  It was so bad the other day poop was all over his legs & feet, on my pants and on the carpet. (I was changing him on the floor)

Re: Diaper changing help

  • Well, with Margaux I change her standing up, but he's gotta have good leg strength before you try that.  Plus it doesn't by any means always contain the mess, especially once they start walking!  I remember I used to give her a toy to try to distract her during changes, but that didn't always work either.

    Good luck!

  • My little one is the same way. I just put him on a changing pad, make sure I have everything ready before lying him down, hand him a small toy like a block or something, and change as fast as I can. It takes a lot of my strength, but we manage. GL!

  • You're right to stick with the floor. I have never owned a change table so we've always used the floor. Make sure you have everything ready beside you. And the toy ready. I sit with my legs in a V and lo in between and sometimes use my legs to stop the rolling thing. And you have to use your super human strength and speed to change that nasty diaper before it explodes!  Or change on a wipeable surface like the bathroom, then you can wipe it off tile/lino instead of the carpet.

This. "This little Piggie" buys me some time too.

  • Thank you ladies!! I've tried to distract him with a toy, the remote, a phone, etc.  We have a inflatable bath tub and that worked for a little while until he figured out how to roll over in it.  I'm so glad DS finally "took" to solids and his poop is more solid these days.  You would swear I was raising The Rock the way we wrestle to change his diaper!!!

Today while I was changing him he rolled over so I figured this was a prefect opportunity to get the Desitin on his butt until he decided he wanted to sit up (not on the diaper of course).
