I'm still at a loss for first names, so it may be a little too early for this question, but can a middle name honor two people. SO and I were talking about using the name Carolina for my grandmother (Carol Elizabeth) and my great-aunt (Ina Rose). My grandmother raised me, and my Aunt Ina was extremely important to me while growing up.
So, is this cheesy? Does it work? Is it okay to honor two people with one name? Will they feel cheated? Also, for pronunciation: do you like Car-oh-leen-ah or Car-oh-line-ah? (My aunt has had her name pronounced both ways--she typically goes for the long "I" pronunciation, but the generations of our family that still spoke Swedish would use the other.)
Re: Can a middle name honor two people (re-post from Sept)
I like it. Carol-ina works. There are so many instances where combining names does NOT work that most people should not do it. I love Carolina.
My Aunt is named after 2 uncles and 1 aunt: Ron, Ella and Jene so her name is Ronella Jene, she hates it.

Smooshing two names rarely works.. but Carolina is lovely AND a name!
My daughters middle name is Faye. My DH's maternal grandmother's first name is Faye and my paternal grandmothers middle name is Fay. It honored them both and they were thrilled for Abigail to have their name.
I like Caroleenah for pronunciation.

I like it! Not cheesy at all.
I think the pronunciation would depend on the first name. It just depends on what flows better!
In this case it really works. I don't like contrived smoosh names, but this is actually a real name, and a very pretty one at that!
I would go with Car-oh-line-ah, because that's what people are most familiar with (think North Carolina, South Carolina). Telling people to pronouce it another way would seem odd.
