I think we are just going to call them what other grandkids already call them or what we called our grandparents. My mom will be "Grandma." My MIL will be "Nanny." I have a 2 year old nephew who calls my mom "Mamaw" instead of "Grandma."
My mom is and will remain "Omi" (pronounced "oh-me"). "Oma" is the German word for grandmother but it sounded too much like "grandma" and my mom was 48 when our first was born and too young to be a grandma. Matt's mom was "Grandmom" but she passed away in May. My step-dad (my father is not in my life) is "Panka" due to some really cute mispronounciation on our daughter's part. My grandma, whom I"ve always called "Grandma" is "Mommy's Grandma."
My mom will be Nana, b/c my nieces already call her that, so I guess MIL can just be Grandma unless she wants to be something else. Which makes my dad Papa, of course!
My Mom is Meemaw(a Southern thang;0) And DH's Mom wanted to be "Nanny," but he started calling her Nana, which I love. So we have Meemaw and Nana. My nephews other grandma is G-ma. Literally they say- Gee Maw. Very hip hop. LOL
My parents are 'Mutti' (german for mommy) and 'Papa.' My husbands parents are Nanna and Papaw. My grandmother is GG (great grandma) - she's the coolest! haha.
DS is the first grandchild on either side. He already named my dad Papaw, so cute! My mom we still don't have a definite but it is so easy to say Mamaw and Papaw. Hard to find a Hallmark card with those. They always have Nana, she loves Nana but he ends up calling her banana. :-) I love my kid!!
DH's dad and stepmom are Grandma and Grandpa our last name. We do not have a close relationship to say the least with them so we keep it formal.

My DD has way too many GMs so she sometimes gets confused when we are talking about them because she doen't use names just Grandma but she calls them...
Mimi and Grandaddy, Grandma and Papa, Grandma and Nana, Grandma Linda and Joel, and Grandma
both of the moms want to be called Grandma. I was hoping they'd want different names, but I let them pick, so that's what they'll be.
When I was growing up all of my grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa. That is how it was for most of my friends too. The whole having different names thing is weird to me but that is what everyone wanted.
We called my parents Grandpa and Grandma because that is what my grandparents were called. DH is British and he called his grandparents Nanny and Granddad, hence his parents being called that. I like that each of us are passing our heritage to our kids
I hadn't even thought of this until one day, soon after I told my mother that I was pregnant, my mother called and told me that she was practicing calling out to "Poppy" so that my father would get used to it. She then asked if she could be called Nana.
As for the inlaws, we haven't had that conversation yet. They already have grandkids that call them Nanny and Poppy. Is it okay if different grandkids call them different names, or we stick with the same???
I wanted baby to call my dad "Grumpy". He can suit the name perfectly and I remember a friend growing up that had a Grumpy. It was the cutest.

My MIL has already been sending gifts to me and baby signed from "SueSue" (her name is Susie.) My niece already calls her SueSue so I guess that's what it'll be for all the coming grandchildren.
I think my FIL will be called Poppa or Poppa Jeff (also, my niece already calls him that.)
And for my own father...have no idea! I haven't asked him what he wants to be called...maybe we'll wait and let my kid name him when he/she's able to talk a little. (My baby will be the first on my side of the family.)
My parents want to be called JuJu and Skipper. My mom's name is Julie, and my dad recently bought a boat, so they thought those names were cute. Is it terrible if I really STRONGLY DISlike these names??
My mom is "Mema", my mil is Grammie, "Step" FIL is "Big Papi" named by my DD (they have a special bond but calls him that since his favorite player is Big Papi aka David Ortiz from the Red Sox--the funny thing is now that DD is 4 she gets mad while watching the games because "He's (referencing Ortiz) not Big Papi Mommy! He doesn't have a mustach" She says this is the cutest whinny voice ever) and my FIL is "Papa"

I don't like my MIL's choice of SueSue either, but....since my niece already calls her that, I don't think I get a choice!
Maybe you could think of some other names and some day just casually ask how they feel about the various names...
My MIL and FIL are already grandparents and they like to be called Oma and Opa (My FIL is German), and my parents (first-time grandparents) want to be called Mamita and Papito (my mom wants the baby to call her the same way she called her grandma, that's so sweet!). They have all decided how they want to be called, I think it would be difficult to impose anything.
What about you and your children? Are they going to call you by your first name or Mom and Dad? It's a huge trend now for children to call their parents by their first names, but it's not for me. If you already have children, how do they call you?
I'm letting them decide what they want to be called. Although, I will not let my kids call them Maw Maw or Paw Paw or anything red-neck sounding. So not cute.

I think my in-laws just want to go with the traditional grandma and grandpa. That's what they keep referring to each other as. My dad goes by "Grampa Tino." My step mom... will probably just be called "that woman over there"...

My parents are Grandma and Grandpa. My dad was Papa with my niece. My grandmother is Grandma Gracie (started with my niece) and will probably stay that way. DH's parents are Nona and Papa. They have been those nams since grandson #1 and have stayed that way with all 8 grandchildren on DH's side. SIL is due in before me and will have grandchild #9, my LO will be #10 for them.
My parents will be Nagymama and Nagyapa (Hungarian for Grandma and Grandpa).
My Hubby's father will be Pop pop and his wife like to be called Gran (which I think is STUPID) but whateva they are never around any ways so it's not like it really matters

Re: What will you call the grandmas?
DHs mom wants to be called Nana, my mom is called Bunga, my 3 year old nephew started saying this when he was like 2 and it stuck...LOL
