I am trying to decide if we should register for the normal sound monitor or the movement sensor one. I like the idea of monitoring my baby's breathing (apparently the movement sensor monitor beeps if baby hasn't moved/breathed in 20 seconds) HOWEVER I just wonder how many false positive beeps there are. The last thing I need is unnecessary stressful moments if the movement monitor beeps when really everything is ok. Anyone know anyone who has used the movement sensor monitor and really liked it??
Re: Movement Sensor Monitor or not??
We got the Angel Care monitor for our first son and the only time it ever went off in the first 6-9 months of his life was the time he actually stopped breathing during a nap. So, yes, I would say definitely get the movement monitor AND LEARN INFANT CPR. Because really, what good does the monitor do if you don't know what to do for an apneic child?
Once he got older and really started moving off the sensor pad, we did start having false alarms but, could fix most of them by adjusting the sensitivity. For us, just having the mind set that it could be prone to false alarms helped us not really panic.
Aside form the fact that it helped to save my son's life, I was also really happyh with the sound quality, the range it had and the fact that it monitored the nursery temperature. It was all around a good product.
I haven't ever posted here before but I do lurk a ton getting ready for my November baby!
My two sisters both have 2 month old babies and they both have the Angelcare monitor that you are talking about. One sister hasn't had any problems with false alarms, the other has had a couple because her baby moves a lot during her sleep and goes off of the pad.
Both of their babies are also tummy sleepers because they wouldn't sleep on their back so I think these monitors add a lot of security because you never know what will work best for you baby. I know so many people are concerned about bumpers being a suffocation hazard but with this monitor, the alarm would go off before your baby even makes it to the bumper.
I know this will be a must have in my house before I even bring the baby home from the hospital! Hope that helps some.
This. I feel like the movement sensor would freak me out unnecessarily.
Unrelated but your daughter is such a doll.
As much as I sing the praises of the Angel Care monitor (and I really do, every time someone asks) you have to realize that just having a movement monitor is NOT a substitute for utilizing PROVEN safer sleep recommendations. As someone else pointed out, this monitor is not routinely recommended as a prevention for SIDs, it has never been studied. It worked quite well for me and my son but, we have no way of knowing if that would be a typical good result from using this product or, if we just got exceedingly lucky. Yes, my story is very good and I freely share it and will absolutely use the monitor again. However, it's not proven like back sleeping is (cut SIDs rates IN HALF), and the monitor isn't proven like not using bumpers and extra bedding has been (tons of evidence that many, if not most, SIDs deaths are really suffocation deaths that got miscoded).
It would not be smart to rely on a monitor that has good anecdotal evidence but, no proven evidence., to REPLACE proven and known safe sleeping practices. If you are looking for a good monitor to add to a crib that has nothing in it but the baby, sleeping on his or her back, then I highly recommend it. If your looking for something to make sure that you can "save" your child in time so that you have an excuse to put them in an unsafe sleeping environment, that's just irresponsible and I would not recommend it in that case. You're just looking for a false sense of security so that you can risk your child's life. I don't think it's a good product for that.
I love Baby Bargains but I don't think they did a great job of actually reviweing the product here. NO monitor will help prevent SIDS, that's your job as a parent. Not a single monitor has the capability to jump into the baby's crib the second they stop breathing and perform cpr. The monitor is there for the extra comfort for the parents.
I've heard great things about the AngelCare monitors. Despite the baby bargains review, we will be buying the video version. We live in a tri-level house with our bedroom being on the very bottom floor and the baby's room is going to be on the top floor. I like the little extra piece of mind but am not seeing it as a replacement for actually keeping my eye on her.
I agree - they didn't review the audio or video monitors at all. We're actually registered for the audio monitor based on Amazon reviews. We're just skipping the breathing monitor.
