how much do you budget

for back to school clothes and gear (not classroom supplies, but backpack and lunchbox ) ?

Re: how much do you budget

  • Probably around $200. I admit to going overboard with her and she's only 4.

  • Nothing at all other than school supplies. They both have PBK backpacks from last year and they were purchased with the understanding that they would be used until they outgrow them (or wear them out, whichever comes first.)

As for clothes, I'm not getting them any either. They both can fit into so much stuff from last year that I've decided to just wait and buy them clothing on an as-needed basis. They have so many clothes already that there's just no need buying them anything new. Plus, school here starts in 3 weeks and it'll be way too warm for fall clothing for at least another 2-3 months.

  • I don't really budget, but just the shoes for my 2 boys cost about $300...so  a lot is spent on school stuff.

I should just say, I want your hand-me-downs!

We don't spend alot on the backpacks because I want them to have the fun of picking new ones each year. We got ours from PBK on clearance. About $20 each if I remember. Another $15 for lunchboxes.

Also don't buy back to school clothes. We just get a new first day outfit and replace clothes throughout the year as needed. I spend about $40 each for the outfit, including accessories not shoes.

  • Just the basic school supplies. MIL insisted on buying his backpack. I think I'll go ahead and buy some fall clothes, but only because they're impossible to find later on. For now, he has plenty of summer clothes and they're all in great condition still. It will most likely be early October, maybe mid-late September depending on the weather this year, before he needs new clothes. I bought new shoes, but only because he needed new ones. I'll buy clothes as a I always did. His clothes won't cost any more than last year, and FWIW, his backpack was $22, I think. He'll be in half-day K, so no lunch box (plus he has several anyway).
