Cloth Diapering

Prefold users...snappies or no snappies

Our daughter is due in 3 weeks and I am trying to collect all the necessities.  My husband is oppose to cloth diapering so I am trying to make it as easy and full proof as possible.  Since we are using prefolds from the diaper service I checked out a couple youtube videos some using snappies to keep the diaper in place others just using a trifold method with the diaper itself.  Wondering what other prefold users prefer??  Also what do you recommend for nighttime diapers??  Any tricks?

Re: Prefold users...snappies or no snappies

  • Snappis. Especially for runny nb poo.

You won't need to worry about nighttime for a nb. After that I'd recommend a Goodmama good.night or a stuffed pocket.

  • I agree with Dr. L.  We startedby trifolding prefolds and laying them in covers.  We were going through covers really quickly because we kept getting poop on them.  Once we started using the snappis, we had far fewer poopy covers.

I also agree that you won't need to worry about nighttime for a while.  My son ate frequently during the night, and I actually changed his diaper in the middle of his meals for a while to help wake him up, so he would eat more.

  • Snappis for sure.  Like PPs said, you'll go through covers like mad if you don't use them.  NB poo is very runny!

  • We couldnt get the poo contained to the prefold with or without the snappi, so we just skipped it during the NB phase and went through a lot of covers.  Now I tend to snappi for the most part.

  • Snappi. Especially once your LO is crawling/walking. Helps keep things where they are meant to be and from sliding around.

  • I don't even owna snappi.  That being said, I didn't cloth diaper until DD was 10 months so no idea about NBs or EBF babies.

  • i used prefold diapers with snappies. i used the bikini twist fold during the day and the jelly roll fold at night and i had few poop on the cover issues.
  • Definitely buy a Snappi!  It made prefolds so easy.  With runny newborn poo, we would've had leaks every time if we'd just trifolded.

  • I didn't CD until my son was older either, but now I do just a snappi'd prefold if DS needs to air out a bit, but skip it when he's wearing a cover.  I got a 3 pack and that's more than enough for me.  Maybe you should start out with a couple see how you like them.

  • I don't have a baby to diaper yet but my husband loves the Snappis. I think this has to do with his love of gadgets and, if your husband is the same way, that might help him embrace the diapers.
