DD had her 4 month shots yesterday. I know a mild fever is totally common the day after and this morning she was at 101 degrees. The doctor said to give her acetaminophen if she had a fever between 100-103. I gave her the recommended dosage from the medicine dropper but she spit out a bit. I didn't give her any more because I didn't want to accidentally give her too much. DH said she was still warm when he dropped her off at DC this morning and our DCP said she would call if the fever didn't respond to the medicine. DH said she was a little sleepy but otherwise was smiling and wasn't fussy.
I'm hoping she'll do OK today. Do you all have any advice on how to make sure your LOs swallow all their medicine? We have one of those pacifier medicine dropper thingies but that doesn't work for her. She won't suck on it.
Re: Fever after 4 month shots?
sorry your babe is having a reaction to the shots. tomas had a bad reaction to his 4 month shots, too. we did an alternate vax schedule with audrey.
try putting the dropper along the side of her mouth, as far back as comfortable and squeeze just a drop at a time. you'll have to do this several times to get the full dose in, but it's better than the alternative!
GL. FWIW, T felt better by the end of the day.
we drop the meds inside the cheek
yes, fever is common for upto 24hrs after the shots
we do the alternate vax schedule, where the kids never get more than 2 shots at a time, that means I come in b/w well visits but it's worth it to me
This works really well until maybe 6 months or so.
Hopefully the Tylenol will do the trick. T had some troubles with one or two shots, but the fever usually went away within 24 hours.
Honestly, after his 2 month shots made him cranky and slightly feverish, we gave him tylenol the minute we got back from the pedi after the 4 and 6 month shots and didn't wait for a fever.
I second blowing on the face - that always worked for LO. Now he is pretty good about swallowing medicine if we put the dropper back far enough in his mouth.
