When did you all lose the baby weight?

I am 7 weeks PP and I this last 10 pounds is still clinging strong.  I worked out my entire pregnancy and was able to start working out again quickly after my delivery.  I eat really healthy but I feel like its taking forever......I am 5 '2 and 10lbs on my looks like so much more! TIA! :)  Also, advice is appreciated.

Re: When did you all lose the baby weight?

  • I'm 9 months PP and now weigh 5 pounds less than before I got pregnant.  It took a while but the baby weight is gone. I've just been eating healthy and breastfeeding. GL!

  • I was always 'skinny' and only gained 30 lbs at delivery. I was back at my prepreg weight at less than 5 mos but at 6 mos I'm less. I have lost a lot of muscle so I'm really wanting to hit the gym!
  • I am 3.5 months PP and I have 3 more pounds to lose. I am also 5'2" and I gained about 35 pounds with my pregnancy.

  • I'm 5'6" and gained 28 lbs. during pg.  I lost 20 lbs. by three  weeks pp, and have been 5-8 lbs. above pre-pg weight since then.

I'm 12 weeks pp now and haven't had time to work out much so I've lost a lot of muscle.  At this point I am less concerned about the scale and more focused on just being able to wear my pre-pg clothes.  They're pretty fitted, though, so it'll be a little while.

As soon as I stop having to go home during lunch to feed LO (he fights the bottles of BM that DH gives him), I'll start working out during lunch and should see faster progress.

  • I am thin/underweight and only gained 12 lbs with DD1. I lost them all the day I delivered and was 18 lbs lower after a couple of months. I never breastfed but didn't find enough time to eat and I run every day. With this baby, I gained 7 lbs so far so I might have a similar story to tell now.

  • Glad you asked this question. I am 4 week pp & have lost 20 of the 30 pounds I gained durning pregnancy. I can't wait to get the all clear from my doctor to start working out so I can loose the last 10 pounds. Though it sounds like it's going to take a little longer than I hoped.

  • With DD, I was back to pp weight at 10 weeks pp.  I ran 2 weeks pp and was very careful about what I ate, and I breastfed.  Hoping it happens as quickly this time, too!  I didn't exercise at all with DD while pregnant because I was on bedrest for a large chunk of my pregnancy, but this time I am walking/jogging 3-4 miles 5 days a week.

  • I gained 40lbs and lost it all and a little more by 3 months post partum. I think it was mainly from breastfeeding, but I also was running some too.

I remember losing 15-20lbs the first few month and then nothing until 2 months and that last month the weight fell off like crazy and by the time I went back to work all my pre-prego clothes fit and no one could tell I had a baby.

Be patient...it will happen with time especially if you were in good shape before.

I'm petite 5'1 and I gained 25 lbs in each pregnancy (I have 2u2).  With my first I continued my regular work outs of 5 days a week (did not modify anything).  All the weight came off BUT 10 lbs.  I found if I exercised or watched what I ate my supply dipped very bad (I was BF) so for me it wasn't worth it.  I got pregnant while breast feeding (on purpose) and shortly after that my LO weaned.  About 2 weeks later the weighed dropped off immediately (I never had morning sickness).  When I had my 2nd it was the same thing- I dropped all the weight immediately but 10 lbs (I did not work out at all during my pregnancy- unless chasing after a 1 year old counts).  I again BF and found when she weaned at 11 months old almost immediately the 10 lbs came off.  So I hate to be the person of bad news- it might be there until your done BF (if you are BF).  Although I understand that 10 lbs is 1 or even 2 dress sizes when you are our heights at the same time just try to enjoy this time.  I look back at my pictures from then and think- what the heck was I was worried about- I look beautiful!!  There's nothing more beautiful than a mother!  :)
  • I'm 5'2" as well and I think I was back at pre-preg weight by around 4 months. I gained 29 overall and lost about the first 18 in the first month, then it started to slow down and I lose maybe another five the second month, etc.

I still don't look the same though. More fat, less muscle.

ETA- I'm BFing as well, but honestly, I blame the fact that I'm too tired to have the willpower to eat clean and my LO flips out at the gym daycare so my workouts are limited to when someone else can watch her. I'm sure if I ate clean and lifted regularly I could look better than pre-pg by now. I just haven't pulled that off yet.

  • I am in the same boat as you...8 week PP, 5'0", gained 30 lbs, lost 20 in the first 2 weeks PP, have only lost 1 lb since! So depressing. I started running 2 weeks ago and still haven't lost a damn lb. I'm already up to five miles a day but the scale won't budge. I figure lack of sleep and being less active at home than I am at work (I'm a high school teacher) accounts for some of the slow weight loss. I only breastfed for 2 weeks so my boobs have returned to normal (yay!) but I'm not burning those extra calories and I can wear my prepreggo shirts but I don't think my pants will ever fit. I am still carrying some "squish" above my pants but not on my hips, yet they still won't close. The pants go on with no problem, but its like my hips spread farther apart because I can't close my pants. So I just bought new ones, two sizes larger. It sucked to do that BUT I figure if my hips go back (is that possible?) and I can wear my prepreggo pants, I will have larger pants for the next pregnancy/pp time. And one good thing about being a size 4 now is the sale racks always have more selection than my prepreggo-sized pants!

  • I'm not one of those mom's who loses weight while breastfeeding. :(  With my daughter, I lost 30 pounds but hung onto the remaining 20, boo!  With my son, 9 months on, 9 months off!  Woo Hoo!!!

Don't get frustrated...each body is different and will handle weight differently.  Personally, I'm so happy for those who lost quickly, but I was always insanely jealous.  Don't get side tracked, don't compare yourself to others...you are uniquely YOU. ;)

  • I am 5'5" and gained 50lbs with my pregnancy due to polyhydramnious (extra amniotic fluid).  I am currently 17 weeks PP. I lost 30lbs within the first two weeks and have lost about 10 lbs since then (depending on the day).  It has been tough for me to lose the weight.  I walk about 2.5 miles a day to and from work and also breastfeed.  I am going to begin dieting soon but I am concerned about losing my supply if I diet too hard.  My goal is to lose the remaining 10lbs by Labor Day and to lose an additional 10-15 lbs before Halloween (for my 30th birthday).

  • I gained 30 lbs and lost 20 within prob 6 mos.  I held on to those last 10 lbs until I went on weight watchers, which was over a year after delivery!!  So I am at or a  couple lbs less than prebaby weight, but my shape is a bit different.  Just started back to the gym ( for the 3rd time in 2 years).  I can't believe how weak I am.  I need to muscle up a little!

  • I gained 60 (gasp!) pounds with DD and EBF. The first 20 pounds came off within 2 weeks, then the next 20 came off within the next 4 months. By her 1st birthday I was back to my prepregnancy weight. Once I started to wean I slowly lost more weight and lost another 17 pounds by the time she was 20 months or so.

I did weight watchers on and off and walked a lot with DD. I was not really strict about my eating until she turned one though, so I probably could have lost faster.

  • I gained 58 pounds with DD....yikes.  I was on bedrest for the last 7 weeks of my pregnancy and pretty much ate what I wanted throughout the entire thing.  I am almost 2 months pp and down 33 pounds.  My goal is to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight by 6 months pp.  I was a healthy weight (a little on the thin side of normal) before getting pregnant.  I have been following weight watchers and breastfeeding, but haven't started working out yet.
  • I gained 45 pounds with DD1, and I started this pregnancy four pounds heavier than when I started my first pregnancy. I BFed for 18 months and worked out pretty hard 5-6 times a week. I tend to reward myself with food, so I could have probably lost it all a lot sooner with more will power.

I've already gained 9 lbs. with this one, and I am determined to not gain more than 35 this time. Now that I'm feeling better, hopefully I can focus more on eating fruits and veggies and lay off the carbs a bit.
