I'm planning a shower for a friend. I was thinking of using $5 starbucks gift cards as prizes, but then it occured to me that I could easily have a tie for each game, and that could really add up. I might do it anyway, but does anyone have any other ideas that are appreciated and not very expensive?
Also, is this too many games? I'm thinking maybe I should get rid of one.
While people are just socializing or whenever they want to, they can do these games:
1. guess how many candies are in the bottle (I have a jar that's shaped like a baby bottle). The winner keeps the candy
2. Match the celebrity baby picture to the celebrity. I might throw the MTB's picture in too. I'll probably display the pictures on a board.
I think I need to pick just one of the games above. Two is too many, right? They won't have time in a 2 hours party?
And I have 3 game ideas for during the shower:
1. Baby gift bingo- I like this one because the guests fill out their bingo card with gifts they think MTB will get and then play the game as she opens gifts. It gives them something to do while they watch.
2. The Price is Right- have people guess how much various baby items cost and MTB keeps them all.
3. Everyone gets a lump of clay and shapes it into a baby. MTB chooses the one she likes best. This is probably the one I'd ditch if 3 games is too many.
I'd like the shower to last 2 hours. That's about how long the showers are that I attend. If it makes any difference, this is going to be a small shower. The MTB only gave me 14 guests, so I'm figuring on 10-12 actually coming. So gifts might actually go pretty quickly.
Re: Any good idea for prizes for baby shower games?
I would nix the clay one. Expensive and some people just won't want to get their hands "dirty". The baby bottle with candy in it can also be done during the gift opening if you want. Personally I don't like the baby bingo unless the cards are already filled out. Too easy to put down all the gifts you got in a row so as soon as MTB opens your gift you have a bingo...kwim?
As for pirzes...I love the scratch off lottery ticket ideas. I've used it many times when hosting showers and one time someone won quite a bit of money. Just buy extras in case you have multiple winners for the same shower...and if you have left overs you can give them to MTB or keep them yourself.
My mom is planning 3 games for my shower. One is a diaper raffle so they get a raffle ticket when they arrive with a pack of diapers, the other is Baby Bingo and she's still working on the other. There will be about 18 guests and the shower will last 3-4 hours.
For the diaper raffle the gift is a really nice gift basket from Bath & Body Works, the gift for the winner of Baby Bingo is a nice wine gift set and she's still working on the third.
I really wanted the gifts to be nice because I know that the showers I've been too I've always won really tacky gifts that end up being regifted or sold at a yard sale. I wanted to gift something my guests would really appreciate.

I recommend that you stick to 2 or 3 games, since the gift opening and food eating takes up most of the time.
I think edible gifts are great, chocolate, candy or popcorn gift baskets.
Also, a gift basket filled with bath items and matching cloth or sponge. (can you tell I like making gift baskets!? ha ha)
Or useful items, like gift cards, or fancy candy dishes or things like that.
Good luck!

All of the games sound great but may be too many. I would do the baby gift bingo so guests have something to do while MTB opens gifts. I would choose 1 or 2 other games and ditch the rest.
For both of my SIL's showers, we wrapped Bath and Body Works lotions and sprays in cellphane and tied them up with pretty ribbon for prizes. Everyone seemed to love the prizes!
I think 2-3 games max. At the last shower I co-hosted, we came up with a tie breaker game for the two guests who tied. They took turns either naming a movie title with the word "baby" in it, or a movie specifically about babies until one couldn't think of any. It was a crackup!
