Pregnant after IF

I'm not ready!

I just got back from the OB and I'm 2cm dilated, 80% effaced and have less than 1cm cervical length left. Also, I'm funneling. Oh dear. The OB said I need to lie with my feet and pelvis elevated and pay really close attention to my contractions. She said "if you make it to your appointment next week, that's great, but if not, don't be surprised" :( I was really not expecting that news today. I feel totally fine! Beep is still small (25th percentile) and estimated to be 5lbs 4oz. Ohh I really want her to stay in there until she's full term! I'm not ready to have her yet. Thanks for listening.

  • Aw, I know it is nerve wracking, but you have done such an awesome job keeping her in there for so long.  A five pound baby is a great sized baby - especially for one who is a week or two from full term.

We are all keeping our fingers crossed for a little more time for you and Beep, but you will do great.  At this point, if she needs to pause in the nicu, it will just be for insurance!

    You can do it!!!!!

Oh, E, I can imagine how surprised you were to get that news.  Do what you can, but know that when Beep comes she's going to be OK.  You have done an amazing job so far, and I am confident that once she's born you're going to be so thrilled to have her that it won't matter if she was a little early!

FWIW - My boys were all smaller than what Beep is measuring right now (just over 3 lbs, 4 1/2 lbs, 5 lbs), and all three of them did great.

I hope Beep Beep decides to stay inside for a while longer but I agree with the PPs that she'll be fine either way.  Also those u/s weight estimates aren't perfect - she could be bigger.  I'm glad you are feeling well though.

    Fingers crossed!

  • T&Ps for a few more weeks!  If it makes you feel any better at my 37 week appointment they told me they didn't think I'd make it back since I was 3cm and 80% thinned out.  I marched my big 38wk butt in there the following week after sitting on pins and needles all weekend and had no change.  It is definitely possible to make it a little longer.

I hope she stays put a little longer but feel free to be nervous. But overthink it will get you nowhere. You've done a great job so far and will soon have to stop worrying about pregnancy and start worrying about feedings and diaper and sleep. Weather it's in a week or two or four.

Oh sweetie! I know you've been through so much. Just remember, the outcome can and will still be GREAT, regardless of when beep decides to come!   We were 8th percentile with IUGR. I was funneling BIG TIME from 32 weeks on, maybe even sooner, but that's when they noticed it, and my dilation/effacement/cervical length were all exactly how yours are now. Briggs ended up being 5lbs 1oz and had virtually NO health problems at birth. He was perfect! I'm praying for the same outcome for you :)

Our 1st IVF miracle, Briggs Sterling, born via c-section due to IUGR and footling breech. 6.5.11. 5:51am. 5lbs 1.5oz.

  • I felt the same way when they told me DS had IUGR at 34 weeks and could come "any time".  He was only 3 lbs. 10 oz when he was born at 36 weeks.  Your peanut sounds like a very good size and probably won't even have to go to the neonatal unit.  I know everything will be fine, but I do pray she stays in a little longer until you are both ready.
