Re: WDYT of Maverick?
It just reminds me of Sarah Palin. If I'm being honest, I think it is kind of silly as a first name.
What other names are you considering?
DD #1 born 4/1/2012
My Married Bio
I think I agree, just can't find anything I love.
Well, we had Hudson picked out for years, but it is now out (bf used it).
Others on our list are: Ronan (FN), Holden, Sutton, Liam, Camden, Landon, Dexter, Bennett...
I also like Xavier, but don't think my husband will go for it..
I like Holden a lot! Camden is nice as well.
BFP #1 9/7/10, EDD 5/14/11, Violet born 5/27/11.
BFP #2 4/9/12, EDD 12/16/12, M/C Rory 4/24/12.

(read it. you know you want to.)
anderson . september 2008
vivian . february 2010
mabel . august 2012
i Really like the name...
I'd use it for DS#2... but it would be to car"ish" with my son Lincoln..
but as for your other choice I like Holden..
I'd go with Marvrick!
Maverick is my dog's name and I think its very fitting for pets not for children.
I automatically think of Sarah Palin which makes me want to lose my lunch.
It's definitely too out there for a first name.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
Ditto. It first made me think of Top Gun, but the Sarah Palin reference is worse.
I love it! I posted a question about that name here on the bump a couple of weeks ago, and everyone hated it. I still like it though.
Do you feel the need.... the need for SPEED!!
Dude. Don't do that to your kid.
I thought about Maverick for a boy's name and still really like the sound, meaning, etc. Also, I wasn't a part of the Top Gun era, so that reference doesn't cloud my judgment. I'm of the opinion that any Sarah Palin reference to the 2008 election will be completely inconsequential in the coming years (I mean, can you remember the catch phrases of the 1996 election? Seriously?). My point is the connotations associated with this name are quickly becoming outdated, so I feel like that is no reason to stay away from it. That being said, if you find other names that fit the bill more, go with those choices.
ETA: The name Maverick ranks like 504th in popularity. I just mean to say that Maverick isn't all that "out there" anymore.
When Tom Cruise identifies himself as Maverick in Top Gun, isn't the reply "Did your parents not like you?"
When I'm choosing an attorney or a doctor, I will not go to someone named Maverick. Sorry, I'm judgy that way.
You're naming a future adult, not a puppy.
This. Landon, and Liam are great though!
honestly, i think its cheesy (very "Top Gun") i know someone who named their son Easton Maverick, and it just seems weird. Ronan is really cool, and I really love Landon.
I also know someone that named their son Xavier Liam...and it seemed like a really strange mix to me.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
It screams Sarah Palin.
I love Holden or Dexter.
Maverick just sounds like parents were trying way too hard to be cool or something
names I Like that are masculine and strong to me are:
Everett, Jackson, Donovan, Declan, Jude, Garrett, Lucas, Devon
