So ok what is about to happen. I know we have one more 2 wk check comming on the 25. Are we going to go a month without pay now? This sucks! What to I need to do budget wise for this transition?

Re: transition: bimonthly to monthly pay checks

  • DH had a job like that for a while and I hated it. My advice is to pay everything (even pre-pay things that aren't due till end of month) all your bills when you get that check. The advice above about quicken in good advice. I wish we had done that. Also a budget is a good idea. The first month DH felt "rich" and went on a mini shopping spree, it hurt us by the end of the month. Try to curb your shopping and wait till the end of the month. I feel like this is even more true if this job is a raise, it is easy to overspend when you feel like you just got a pay raise.
  • Remember that the monthly check will be larger than 2 bi-weekly because, over the course of the year, you get 2 months where you get 3 checks.

You could always split the check and put half of it in savings for 2 weeks.

I'm not much help because, as a teacher, you normally only get 10 checks a year, so having 2 a month would be strange to me.

  • Thanks for all the good advise! It is a raise but only a little one. I like the idea of dividing it in half. I am also worried we will get this next 2 week check and then go 4 weeks without a check. I put 20% of this last check in the bank and plan to put a little more of the one on the 25. I am just not sure when we will get our first monthly check if his start date was supposed to be the 15th. I am hoping if we are careful it will only suck a little.
