Beach after beta?

I hate that I'm even thinking this could possibly work (hope is just such a tease for me), but anyway... My parents, aunt and uncle are renting a beach house in Long Beach Island NJ for a week, starting the day of my beta. It's about a 2 hour drive but could be 3 with traffic. If it's negative, no problem to go down. But, if it's positive (knock on wood), I guess I would have to find a Lab Corp on the island to get repeat draws. Also I'm wondering if it's a good idea anyway: First there's the long car ride; plus I would use a beach umbrella but I'd still probably be in the heat/sun somewhat; not sure if swimming's a good idea and it might be torture for me not to since I love the ocean; doing a fair bit of walking to get to the beach and to our spot (the beach is pretty wide down there). On the other hand, it would be really fun.

WDYT - am I overthinking it, or should I just stay home on the couch in the air conditioning? I realize this is probably a really stupid thing to be worried about, especially ahead of time.

It's not stupid to think ahead.  I think you should go to the beach.  You should be able to find a lab corp near and in terms of staying cool, The umbrella should work but there are always cooler stores or places around the beach.  I am sure the beach house will be cool and you can chill there on the couch and head out to the ocean later in the day when it gets cooler.  You could also just wade in the water up to your knees.

  • I would plan to go. It'll give you something to look forward to and keep your mind off the 2ww as much as possible. ;)

We had a trip planned for 2 weeks after beta last summer and the only reason I couldn't go was OHSS. Without that there wouldn't have been a problem.

  • I'd go.

Pregnant people do things all the time before they even know they are pregnant. Most people would have know idea if they were pregnant or not when you'll have your beta. It'll be fine.

    Enjoy the trip!

I think it is a great thing that you are thinking so positively!  :-) I am so excited to hear the news!!  I have good feelings about this!

I would go to the beach.  LBI is beautiful and you could find ways to stay cool when it is super hot.  I am not sure about the swimming, but I am sure lots of pregnant ladies swim before and after they know they are pregnant.

    Good Luck!

After 1 IUI, 3 IVF's with CGH/CCS testing, 10 early miscarriages, and lots of tears and frustration, we are moving on to Domestic Infant Adoption!  We are so excited to see what the future holds.

  • I agree with the others....enjoy your beach trip!  Just take it easy when your beta is positive. :)

  • You should go. LBI is so much fun. And there is no amount of sun, sand, and ocean water that could be bad for beta #2. Go and enjoy yourself.

  • Go to the beach :) I did right after my first u/s so I was about 6 weeks. I talked to the RE first. He said just go in the water to stay cool(don't let yourself overheat), drink tons of water, and pack snacks. Just think of all the pregnant ladies who don't even know they are pregnant at 4-5 weeks and go about life as usual. Good luck!!!

  • I would be comfortable doing everything but going into the water above my thighs. Personally, I would never get into any natural body of water or any public pool after embryo transfer or pregnant at any point. Everyone pees in that water, and I would be too scared of infection hurting the embryo. Being in the sun is fine, our bodies maintain an appropriate temp as long as we don't over exert and stay well hydrated.driving is fine, you're just sitting,I personally would have my husband do the driving.
