Thin as a dime but eats like a horse!

My daughter turns 4 in October.  She weighs 36 lbs. and has an appetite out of this world!  Let's take this morning for instance:  she ate waffles and milk for breakfast. We went to the gym about 30 minutes after she ate and stayed for an hour.  As soon as we left the gym, she asked for a snack.  I told her when we got home I'd give her one.  When we got home, I gave her 3 graham cracker squares and a cup of apple juice.  15 minutes later, she was asking for lunch.  (It was only 10:45.)  I made her wait 15 minutes to see if she was really hungry...at which time I gave her an applesauce cup.  I told her no more food until lunch.  30 minutes later, she was asking when lunch time was.  I'm heating up leftover gumbo from last night's dinner.  Anyone else's child eat alot or always asking for food?  How do you manage their appetite/meals?

  • That is my DD.  The child would eat all day if I let her.  She's constantly wanting a snack, just about 30 minutes after she just had one.  She's a beanpole and weighs about 30lbs. and is about 40 inches tall.

  • I am glad to know my DD is not the only one who does this. She eats twice as much as DS. She will be 3 in Sept and weighs 29lbs and is 37in. She usually eats breakfast, a snack, lunch, snack (after nap), dinner, and a snack. I just make sure that she is eating healthy snacks like fruit, yogurt, string cheese, etc. She does eat goldfish crackers, teddy grahams, and fruit snacks also but I try to limit those to one snack a day.

  • Ben turned 4 in June and eats all the time.  He weighs 43 lbs and is 44 inches tall.  He gained 10 lbs between 3 and 4.  He eats either waffles, toast, bagels, with fruit and milk for breakfast.  He almost always eats a snack between breakfast and lunch.  I try to make it either some fruit or goldfish.  He eats lunch (usually something left over from the night before) which would include meat, vegetables and a fruit and he'll take a nap and eat when he gets up.  Then he'll eat supper with a dessert and 1-2 snacks before he goes to bed.  I keep Gogurts, popsicles, snack crackers, grapes, apples, bananas for his snacks.  Thank goodness he's so active because I really think he uses so much energy that he needs all that food.

  • My son used to do this, but it got better once I stopped giving so much simple carbs as snacks (the bread, pretzels, goldfish, etc.) and gave more fiber and protein (string cheese and apple slices or hummus and carrots or almond butter on toast)--now he asks for at most 1-2 snacks a day.
