So I am a little over six weeks and was wondering what people thought about this! We are supposed to be going to the hospital that I want to give labor at tonight for a tour they do tours 2 times a week for anyone and I was just wondering what other people thought about doing this is it too early good idea? We are going just to make sure thats the hospital we want to be at when we deliver and stuff. Thoughts?
Re: Hospital Tour
I think it's a good idea. You'll get to see L&D so you'll know where to go. At mine, they went over things like how to get in after hours, where you walk if you're going natural or before you can have an epi, the available rooms, where C-Sections happen, where baby will sat (in room or nursery), pediatrician, where fridges and popsicles are available...that kind of stuff - which your OB will probably go over with you but it's good to actually see it. Also, if L&D or their procedures are something you're really not expecting or wanting, you can make a change if necessary (so no, I don't think it is too early).
I went on a hospital tour at 36 weeks w/BF and 38 wks with my mom - that way, everyone knew what was going on and where to go!
Have fun! Was exciting for me!
With DS, we didn't take a hospital tour until 3rd tri. It was with our child birth class.
Seems a little soon to be taking a tour.
The main point in us going is to make sure we want to be at that hospital that way if we dont we can switch drs before going to far with the one we have and then not liking the hospital and having to switch last minute or somehitng. Being at a good hospital with good nurses is very important to me so I want to make sure before we go to far I want to know its the place we want to be.
Since you're still not 100% sure about the hospital, then going ASAP makes sense. Otherwise, I'd tell you to wait until closer to delivery.
We went around 33ish weeks when I was pregnant with my daughter.
This is why we will be going very soon and very early.
I am having trouble choosing between 2 OB's and each delivers at a different hospital. I want to see both hospitals and maybe that will help me make my decision
I am glad I am not the only one:) I feel a little crazy for going so early but its a big deal to me where I go and especially not knowing anything about the hospitals in the area I just want to be sure before I go through the long process with a doctor to turn around and go somewhere else because I dont like the hospital. Thank you for making me not feel so nuts about going so early!
I will officially be more crazy when you finish reading this
We have about 20 hospitals in the area, and 3-4 are known for prenatal care. My old OB was associated with one close to work, but 25 min from home. The others are closer to home and newer. Before I decided to change my OB, I went to her hospital and hated it. This was before I was even pregnant
I had been having second thoughts about her just in talking about trying so it turns out it was a good decision, but yes, I was totally nuts!
Of the two left I have to go see, I was actually born at one of them, the other has this new amazing maternity ward, but is known for being a "baby factory" and very confusing to get around...
My hosptial tour was two weeks ago. I was only 7 weeks at the time, but my cousin (who is the head nurse in the NICU) was working, I was in town (I live an hour away), and I was stopping by the hospital to see a family member anyway. It was cool to see everything so early. If you tour now, you can always tour again later for a refresher.

We will be going 2mrw for the same reasons, both of our choices are great hospitals but we want to tour them now so we can make a decision:) Glad I am not the only one lol
