It actually wasn't that bad. And they paid. But seriously.
They brought a card with two pictures inside, one of DH when he was Simon's age and one of DH when he was Alex's age. Not frames, but glued on construction paper with a caption scribbled (literally scribbled- the one of DH when he was almost 5 said "C when he was the same age as Si- (scribbled out) Alex." Other than that, no present. Which is fine but as we discussed before, I am gifty and this would frost my cookies. DH is not gifty, so whatever.
So Monday night I baked a peach crisp to have for our "birthday cake". I baked it in a cast iron pan so when I took it out at 10:30 PM it was piping hot- I wanted to go to bed so I put it in the fridge resting on two oven mitts so it wouldn't melt my shelf.
When we got back from dinner I heated the crisp in the oven, and inadvertantly left the oven mitts on the fridge shelf underneath it. I went in to the fridge to get them to take the crisp out of the oven and my MIL went nuts... "Ho ho ho, hee hee hee, did you SEE that?!?! HOW CLEVER!!! They keep their oven mitts in the fridge! That is the BEST idea I have ever seen! Hee hee hee ho ho ho!"
And I'm like, "Um, those were in there because I rested the hot pan on them last night. We don't usually keep them there. It's not really that clever of an idea, it's pretty dumb actually."
And she's like "Oh I just thought how perfect to keep them cold, because the pan handles are hot, oh ho ho ho hee hee hee I thought that was so CLEVER!"
OOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGG
Shoot me. It's nerd city, right?!?!?
But other than that it was generally bearable and ok. Thanks for all the support before because you guys completely got me through it.
Re: Dinner report :)
they are so strange. I would have totally played up the oven mitt thing. Like told her, Oh yea i read it in Womens Weekly! You should try it!
and then crack up when you go to her house and her fridge is full of oven mitts, and God know what else!
Awesome come back. I wish I could say I would do that but I so wouldn't think of it in the moment!
