1st Trimester

My parents are oblivious!!!

Today is the day we decided to tell my parents they will be grandparents!!!

They were taking our son our for the day and came to pick him up this morning. We bought a shirt for him that has a Lion on it and it says:

"I'm not Lion - I am going to be a BIG Brother"

They were at my house for about a half hour and did not notice it. so now it is 10:15 and I just called them to check in and they are still - CLUELESS - REALLY mom and dad!!!!  They were out to breakfast so I said - does he have a bib on - dont want to ruin his new shirt.  Nothing!

I wish I was going to be with them to see the look on their faces - the longer my LO has that shirt on and they dont notice - the funnier (and more aggrivating) this is getting for me and DH.

  • haha -- that's hillarious.  Seriously, when we did it the second we set our son down his mom was reading his shirt.  LOL

  • Ok that is TOOOOO funny. Your parents are going to feel silly when they read his tshirt and realize it was literally staring them in the face the whole time he has been there!!

  • Haha that's really funny.  Reminds me of my husband's reaction when I told him we were expecting.  I bought him a "World's Coolest Dad Shirt" which he took out of the box and said, "Oh thanks"  It didn't click until I handed him the positive pregnancy test.

  • Ok, that is just too funny...you'll have to let us know how long it takes them to figure it out!

  • That's pretty funny! We're telling our families this Saturday at DH's birthday party and bought DD a similar shirt - we have a bet going on how long it'll take them to figure out what it says (although we found a simpler one - it has a picture of a girl and says "Big Sister" next to it - to simplify the task for them, lol). DH is going to be videotaping their reaction too.
  • Very funny!!

My grandparents were in town visiting, so we decided to go ahead & tell them even though it's early. We put my daughter in a "BIG SISTER" t-shirt. It's bright pink with bright green letters. Hard to miss.

2 hours later, DH was like, "So, do you like Abby's shirt?" My grandma said "yes. it's cute!" Still nothing....then she finally was like "is she trying to tell us something?" and we're like "we were wondering how long it's going to take you!!??"

She said she noticed it right away & thought "cute shirt. She will be a big sister, one day."

We are doing the same thing with my DS.  Have the shirt, now just have to go to my parent's house.  I hope the videotaping comes out good!

  • This is our first, so we put a shirt on my dog that said, "I'm going to be a big sister!" My MIL thought we were getting another dog.

Funny, funny! DH and I were talking about how much easier it would be to tell our parents about a second child because we could just do a big sis/ big bro shirt. I didn't think about how that could be confusing. I can completely see my parents not getting it either. We told my parents by slipping my u/s pic into my dad's b-day card. Keep in mind at the top it had my name, my dr office name and "obgyn," but just to clear things up, I put a dialogue bubble sticker by the baby's head that said "Hi". They could not figure it out! They both pulled out reading glasses and were passing it back and forth between each other. My dad finally decided it was an abstract photo of my dog's eye. Grr!
I am dying!! abstract photo of your dog's eye!! too funny!
