Re: How many books does your ~2 year old have?

  • My mom saved every single book *I* had as a kid (and I was in a book club, so I have a ton), then the boys got a lot of books at one of my baby showers, plus we've been given more since they were born...we have a crapload of books.  I think I've read every single one to them already though, so we go to the library to get about 40 more every week and a half.  :)

  • I didn't count, but I'd guess around 150 (or maybe more). He has two bookshelves full of them. We buy most of them at garage sales and half price books, so most are not new. He has tons of hand-me-downs from when I was growing up too.

Wow Joyce that's crazy- 40 books every week and a half? No wonder your boys are so verbal. We have some books my mom saved but not every one.

I'm glad to hear this- I feel like I buy too many books. I try to buy used too.

  • In the words of DH "A FVCK TON".

I'm not sure how many that is but I'm pretty sure it's more than 150.

  • The real question is...how many of those books (ours are board books right now) are in the current rotation and how many times do you read said book.

L goes through wanting to read only certain books.  Sometimes I read the same book 3 or 4 times in a row--yay me!

  • Not that many.  There's a stack of old books in her closet, leftovers from mine and Jakob's.  It has everything from Dr Suess to Little Critters to Clifford.

But Layna isn't really into books or reading.  She has a milk crate full of board books but they sit untouched.  Hopefully when she's older, she'll get interested.  I read to Jakob every day when he was little, multiple books a day.  And now he's old enough to read himself and its torture to get the kid to pick up a book.  I'm taking the opposite approach with Layna, we'll see if she'll make herself into a reader someday.

  • We have over 200 probably.  My moms friend who has a daughter as old as my older brother saved probably every single book they had and she gave them to my mom.  She brought them up here for steven.  I don't have all of them out, there's a box still in my closet.  They were mostly DrSeuss and Disney books.

If anyone wants to borrow a few books just let me know!  LOL

  • We have a lot -- probably 200 or so. We get a lot of hand-me-downs from my brother/SIL and my mom, and it's a go-to gift for L.  He LOVES books.

Good point- we probably read less than we used to. C is also in a phase where he picks one book that he is in to for a while and wants me to read over and over. Right now he is also really in to looking at certain pictures. So, he'll just want to turn to one specific page and look at it for a long time instead of letting me really read the book.
