I called the baby line last night and the nurse said that she wouldn't recommend swimming in metro lakes due to the prevalence of swimmer's itch and my immune system's questionable ability to fight it.
She said I would probably be fine in a lake up north.
Anyone swim in the lakes lately?
Re: Swimming in Metro Lakes
I checked the water quality of Lake Calhoun before we went swimming there once this summer.
It's funny that she said the lakes up north would be better. My mom lives in rural northern Wisconsin, and their lake nearest to her with a beach was closed down for e.coli. Haha. I live in the city and we have better water quality. You couldn't pay me to eat a fish from there, but yeah, I took a chance and went swimming.
I'm pretty sure you can check the water quality of all the lakes around here online.
I've swam in Prior Lake a couple times this year and haven't gotten anything yet. The lakes that are stagnant are more of a concern I believe so with all the rain we've been getting I wouldn't be too worried about. But it's probably always better to be safe than sorry.
I did laps at Lake Harriett yesterday and all summer at our Lake Cabin by Fergus Falls. I just took a shower when I was done. My fiance is a doctor, he doesn't think theirs anything to worry about. However, you can check each lakes individual site to see water conditions before going.
However, I do feel like the lake up North was cleaner.
I also checked out St. Louis Park's public pool, they do adult lap swim during specific times and on Sunday's they do an all ladies swim.
