We got the "all clear" at 6 weeks but I had begun short walks with the stroller before that and am glad I did. It helped staying slightly active so I didn't die the first day I actually tried to exercise.
I was cleared to take walks at 2 weeks pp (although I think for most people walks are ok right away I just still had high BP), and was cleared for all other exercise at my 6 wk appt and started working out that night.
Honestly, if you had an uncomplicated vaginal birth, they say you can start walking and doing other mild exercises as soon as you feel up to it. I think they say to avoid full abdominal sit ups and lunges until you get clearance, especially if you've had stitches down there.
Finally at 3.5 weeks, I felt healed enough to go on eliptical machine. Finally at 4 weeks, I am running and doing some lighter weights.

I haven't started yet, or asked, because I'm exhausted most of the time and my time is either spent cleaning, showering, or sleeping lol. Honestly though, after that first week or two when they have you on a restriction for how much you can pick up, you just need to listen to your body, take it easy, ease into it, and it should be fine.
