What is the correct way to spell Emmeline/Emmaline?

Our LO's middle name is going to be Emmaline (emma-line), in honor of my MIL Emma.  I'd like to spell it Emmaline, but I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling.  I've seen it both ways, both online and in baby books.  And if Emmaline isn't the correct spelling, is that big of a deal since it will be her middle name?  I kind of think not, but wanted to get some feedback.

I wonder this too.  It is a pretty name and I think Emmaline would be fine.

Emmeline is the original spelling, but Emmaline is also accepted. Although I personally prefer Emmeline, I could get behind you spelling it Emmaline in this case for both of the reasons you stated.

I have seen it both ways. I would spell it Emmaline to honor your MIL. To spell it Emmeline just because that's how most people spell it would be silly and not seem as obvious that you are honoring your MIL (just my opinion).

My DD is Emaline, because I based the spelling from the song. I would think spelling it Emmaline would be my second choice. I've gotten tons of great feedback from her name, so I am sure you will be fine no matter what you choose.

Based on the significance I agree with everyone to go with Emmaline.

Plus, when I read Emmeline I read it "Em-mee-lyn" or "Em-mee-line"

DH and I are leaning towards the name Emmalina. I asked a similar question and everyone told me to take an "m" out... I thought that was a bit strange.

I'd stick to Emmaline. Because A-you're basing it off of "Emma". and B-Emmeline kinda looks like "Emmy-line" to me.

If you are naming her that to honor an Emma I would keep the Emmaline spelling.. I don't think its a big deal either way.   Love the name btw!
