Most definitely. I think there are a lot things people say who are familiar to most bumpies that don't get flamed, but it is mostly because they know they are kidding though, I think.
Although, I'm sure if someone made a joke about something sensitive, and they aren't a regular bumpie, I'm sure they'd get ripped a new one.
Some guy threatened to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge in front of my house so I got police barracaded in today for 4 hours.
1. The fall wouldn't have killed him unless he jumped head first.
2. He had to call someone and threaten to do it before hand because people stand on that bridge all the time. No on would have called it in anonymously unless he told someone beforehand or called himself.
3. If you are determined to end your life you don't warn someone that you're doing it unless it's too late. If you're wanting attention you call someone and then go stand on a bridge for 4 hours before being arrested.

I agree with your three points. I think it is a serious cry for help though, which is sad and should be treated with sensitivity.

Obviously I wouldn't go point and laugh but I can't feel bad for him. There are so many ways to seek help and people to talk to. Making a giant public scene is beyond selfish and ridiculous. Not only was he inconvenient he took up valuable police and EMS workers for FOUR hours.
If you need help fine. Call a friend, hotline, or go to the hospital for psyciatric help. I have no patience for these big elaborate "I'm gonna do it! Is everyone watching? I'm going to do it!" when all they want is someone to pay attention to them for a few days.
And yes, I have had people I'm close with do this. The people that I've know that have actually commited suicide didn't want attention. They wanted out and they got it quietly and abruptly. It doesn't change the way I feel.

I agree with everything you just said heifer.

This is the only part I have a problem with. I do not think it should be illegal to kill yourself.
FFS, there was a guy here a few months ago threatening to jump off an overpass. He would have broken his legs, at worst, and he tied up traffic the entire night. Clearly he wasn't serious as the real deal, the bridge, was like two miles down the road. I was pissed. They should have just thrown down a mattress and told him to have at it.

I would have LOLed either way.
& I responded, but TB farted and I was too lazy to type again.
