So someone suggested Kai if this LO is a boy. We are trying to use a K to honor a family member. Is Kai a real name? Does it flow well with the MN, David? (We are certain on the MN)

I have a friend who named his daughter Kai and a friend who's dog is named Kai... But I think it's a beautiful name and if you like it, then go for it.

Yes it's definitely a real name and I like it, SO vetoed it. I don't love it with David but I don't think it's horrible either and I'm guessing since you're certain about the mn it's probably a family name or someone else very important so go ahead and use it. How often do people use the first and middle name together anyway?
