Seeing Stars?

Lately I have been seeing little stars in my vision when I get up or move too quickly.  I tried to google it, and people were saying high blood pressure.  I just took my blood pressure and it's 117/78...so my blood pressure isn't high.  Does anyone else see stars or know what it's from?

Re: Seeing Stars?

  • Happening to me on a daily basis. My BP has been super low - barely 100/65. My MW said it is nothing to be concerned about just another common pregnancy thing. She recommended doing some Kegles when I see stars as it is supposed to help and taking is slow when changing positions.

  • Same here.  My MW said it's fine unless it starts happening on its own without my changing positions or anything to cause it.

  • Yes. Happens all the time. Just putting my shoes on causes me to see stars now!

  • It happened to me the other day while driving, scary! My OB didn't seem to concerned as I have no other symptoms of pre-e. Hope you feel better!

  • Since I have no signs of Pre-E OB warned me to watch out for headaches and blurred vision along with the stars.  If the stars continue without the other symptoms, it's likely dehydration.  HTH!!

  • I saw "stars" (I described them more like irridescent fireflies, haha) once while I was sitting in the bathtub a few weeks ago.  It really freaked me out, and I had my BP checked and it was perfect.

  • I've been getting about once a day when I move. My blood pressure has been slightly high the past couple weeks but my dr. doesn't seem concerned. I saw stars with my son too. It does only happen when I move fast or bend over. And it has been really hot in MI so it may have something to do with the heat too or being dehydrated.

  • Thanks ladies! Seems like a common symptom.  I think I am a bit dehydrated too.  Gotta drink more!

  • I feel ya!  I started seeing them too, and I've had some swelling.  According to symptoms, I could have pre-e.  I fortunately do not have high blood pressure, and my doctor does not seem to be concerned.  I think it's just one of those things that make us worrisome.

  • I know that before I was pg and saw stars it was because I had eaten too much sugar/carbs.  I assume it applies just the same if we're pg.  It's happened to me once in the last few weeks and it was within about an hour of having a sweet drink and dessert.  GL!

  • It happens to me on a daily basis, between being out in the heat with my kids (I'm a nanny) and bending down doing something for my dogs. My blood pressure is perfect and my doctor just said to sit down with a big glass of water when it happens and cool off. Nothing to worry about as long as you stay on the lookout for any other pre-e symptoms. With all the vitals organs being squished into such a small space at the moment, who knows what's really going on in there! Wink

  • It's been happening to me since I was 5 weeks pregnant, even passed out a couple of times. Some people get dizzy when they get pregnant. For me it's low blood sugar, so I just keep healthy snacks around. Mention it to your OB if it's new, but I wouldn't worry about it too much

  • It happens to me every now and then and I doubt it's because of high BP, mine runs really low. Just try to avoid rapid movement, it has to do with a sudden change in pressure, more noticeable during pregnancy.

  • One of my Doctors told me that it could simply be due to an increased presence of white blood cells in your eyes. That's why you see little white things moving around. They reflect the light, so they may appear shiny to you. It makes sense then, that it would be brought on more often when you're standing up quickly, leaning over, straining, or having high blood pressure. In any case, if you don't have any other symptoms with it (such as high blood pressure or vision distortion), it's not an issue.

  • im confused by it , because i was told if we have dark spots in our vision or stars to go to the doctor , i was told it could be a sign of preeclampsia or diabetes . but yet on here i hear that it is normal . im confused.
