Hey Ladies...Randon Question...This Friday I will be 37 Weeks and 2 days...DH and I want to go to try and go to the beach one more time before LO makes her grand entrance....OUr only concern is that it is supposed to go to 100 degrees this friday...Do u think its a bad idea to go?? I plan to drink alot of water and stay in the shade but will the heat and being in the sun possibly make me go into labor? Sorry if its a dumb question but im just curious to hear what you girls think..TIA!

  • talk to your doc and ask him...i can tell you my doc warns me all the time about being outside in the pool and to take it easy on the really hot days....he constantly reminds me how we burn easier and the heat is not good for us. Not to mention your further along than I am...how far away is the hospital from the beach (just in case)

  • I think that I would be super uncomfortable - I've had days when the temp was only 80 and bothered by it. I was at an outside event one morning a few weeks ago and the temp was maybe 90 and I was not enjoying it - I'm one that is still walking (in the evenings mostly) and hiking (in the cooler mountains) regularly too - but I would not find a 100 degree beach fun at all!

  • Do I think its a bad idea? No, of course you want a little beach time before LO gets here, BUT I did last weekend go out to a birthday party that had a water slide so it was outside. I sat in a chair in the shade and it was about 90 degrees. I drank water constantly and was outside for about 2 hours. I literally thought I was going to die. It took me 2 days to recover from the exhaustion of being in the heat.

It won't make you go into labor, but if you are anything like me at 37 weeks you are already miserable enough...why make yourself more miserable!

I live in Phoenix, where it has been 105-110 for the past month or two now.  I walk daily in the heat and no, I have not gone into labor (currently 38 weeks.)

The beach sounds AMAZING.  If Phoenix wasn't a landlocked desert wasteland, I'd be at the beach every day swimming or splashing around with my dog!!!

  • I would just go by how you are feeling.. be extra cautious if you decide to go (which it sounds like you are planning on).   If you start to feel a little too warm..leave.

  • I would say a big fat NO if it were me.  I went on July 4th and it was high 80's I drank a ton of water and ended up with contractions the next day from dehydration.  I don't think its worth it and I am a beach bum!

  • it is very hot here and my doctor has encouraged me to swim the entire time. she even complimented me on my tan last week, lol. she said once my mucus plug is lost all swimming is off so i'd better enjoy myself while i can. my concern would be overheating. so, as long as you dont spend the entire day and kep hydrated, i think you should be fine.

  • I honestly wouldn't go unless you plan on being in the water the entire time. My doctor told me to watch it at the pool (I have a 3 year old and that's all I can do outside right now) so I'd think a beach could get quite dangerous if you're not in the water.
  • The heat will not cause you to go into labor. As long as you take care to keep hydrated and stay out of the sun as much as possible, you'll be fine. Uncomfortable, perhaps, but fine.

  • I would be very careful.  It's been hot here - in the 90's and one of my pregnant friends ended up in the hospital due to dehydration (@ 36 weeks).  She thought she was drinking plenty of fluids.....
  • Personally, I don't think I could handle a whole day of being outside in this heat, even if I were to stay in the shade. But if you think you can, then I'd double check with my Dr for sure.

  • I would go and just leave when you have had enough. I spend 2-3 days at the beach every week and I have been fine. I just bring a lot of fluids, sit under an umbrella, and go in the ocean when I am feeling warm.  I have not been dehydrated, or gone into labor. The only thing that annoys me is that I can't lay on a towel. I hate sitting the whole time. It hurts my back. But swimming helps that.

  • We live at the beach and go every weekend and will this weekend (live in NY). Just sit close to the bathrooms, and close by the ocean (there is a wonderful breeze by the ocean!). Bring plenty of water and also a washcloth inside a ziplock bag full of ice. When you get hot take out the washcloth and lay it on your wrists and back of your kneck. When its not too cold, you can lay it on your tummy too or splach it with water. I constantly keep my stomach cool. Like pp said, if you have enough just leave. Oh also my H and I usually go to beach around 3pm, sometimes 2pm at the earliest. Have fun!
