Try glycerin suppositories if your dr/nurse says its ok!!! TRUST ME!:
I had dealt with really bad constipation earlier in the pregnancy. It got better for the last 3 weeks or so...then the last 2 days it rared up again. Worse than EVER!
I would have terrible tailbone pain from the pressure of the bowels. I take fiber and drink LOTS of water, drink prune juice, use a stoof softener, take a warm bath to sooth the swelling down there--nothing worked.
Last night I was in the worst pain thus far in this pregnancy all from constipation. I was crying, writhing in bed just awful pain--the advice nurse said to try a glycerin suppository and tylenol..it was 2 am and I just took a tylenol..massaged the area a little (yes..) and tried to sleep for 4 hours then got up for work
I went to walgreens to get the suppositories and I am SINGING their praises!
It worked! IT can take 15-60 minutes after putting the suppository in to have a BM, you just feel like you HAVE to go immediately. After 20 minutes I felt the urge (like I always do)but more intense and I was FINALLY able to go! It hurt really bad..the stool softeners dont seem to be working b/c it was hard as a rock (sorry TMI) but I finally went and THANK GOD for the suppositories. They are a localized laxative as well as a sort of lubricant to aid the bowels through...safe for pregnancy. The brand I got was FLEET and its in a little green plastic jar..it can dissolve all the way with your body heat but mine didnt..I pushed it out right before the actual BM but it worked!!
Hope this helps someone...it really helped me. I was in the worst pain I have felt in my life!! Seriously I am sitting here with great relief..at least for now lol
Re: if you are still struggling with constipation..
Thanks so much for the advice! I can relate :(I have had an awful go with constipation these past couple of days, however my nurse told me to get the fleet enema- NOT FUN! Anyway, I go in for a reg checkup tomorrow & am going to inquire about the suppositorie.
I too eat pretty good & drink a ton of water all the while I am taking metamucil & still had issues
Good to know. Thanks for the tip.
I broke down and bought some Metamucil and while it tastes gross and gritty, it is easy enough to choke down a glass once a day and my bowels have been much more regular.
