if you had high BP/pre-e

DW normally runs right at 120/80. As of yesterday, she's out of work for the rest of the pregnancy (and has been complication free, aside from anemia, to this point). She's getting transfusions of iron this week for the anemia, and yesterday her BP was 140/80. This morning it was 155/70.  Her weekly appt is at 1, so obviously her BP will be taken again. I'm going to leave work early so I can be there too to hear what the doc says.

But, just curious, how high did your BP get before it moved beyond being watched to being an issue? I've had this gut feeling she would deliver around 34/35 weeks even though her cervix, NST, etc has kept the MFM saying "37w without a problem", so I am of course freaking out a little in my head right now even though I know we have the best care available.

Re: if you had high BP/pre-e

  • When my BP hit around 170/90-100ish and I was spilling protein I had an emergency c-section.  I was taken out of work at around 140/90.  Otherwise, I was good to go and three days before my c-section I was told I would make it to 37 weeks.  Instead I delievered at 34w 6d.  Good luck to you guys!
  • I was put on bed rest when mine hit 140/90, but mine was usually 100/70.  My BP and Pre-e wasn't the exact reason that I was induced early, my platelet count had dropped dangerously low.  Once I was in the hospital during the induction, my BP did spike up a lot though, it got up to 170s/100s.  The only way they could keep it semi low was if I laid on my left side.  They were going to give me the Mag when I hit 6cms.  Luckily I jumped from 4cm to 10cm in like 30 min, so they couldn't give me that nasty stuff!

  • Mine pre-pregnancy ran about 120/75...when it hit 130/90 we were watching it (around 30-32 weeks I think it was up there)...and then around 35 weeks it starting staying up around 140-150/100 and I was taken out of work (at 35 weeks 3 days)...at that time my platelet count was also way down and dropping...so they decided it was best to induce at exactly 36 weeks, 2 days later I had a c-section and 2 healthy baby girls...GL!
  • My BP was low for most of my pregnancy. When I was on bedrest, it was like 90/60 sometimes with a pulse in the 40s. I was actually worried about it getting too low. I got off bedrest at 35w. Right before 36w, it started to go up around 120/100. At my appointment at 36w4d, it was 140/90, so they sent me to L&D for monitoring. When we got there, it was around 150/90 and climbing. I also was starting to spill proteins. They decided to just go ahead and do the c/s that day rather than risk it going any higher since I was so close to full term, and they felt the babies would do fine on the outside, whereas leaving them inside was risking my health.

  • If I recall correctly, they look at the bottom number more than the top one. My normal BP was 130/70 normally, and when it was 146/84, I was admitted. (I was also spilling some protein.) It was the 84 that concerned them more than the 146, apparently.

It lowered a bit in the hospital, but the proteins kept increasing, so we delivered.

    This is interesting!

Thanks for the info ladies! Hopefully we have a couple more weeks of inside babies!

  • They put me on bp medication when my bp started to go up around 30 weeks then they increased it gradually as I needed it. I made it to 38w 3d until the medication would have to be upped and since I was far enough along they just induced me. I really think that the medication helped me get as far as I did.

  • With my first daughter my blood pressure started going up around week 29.  It was 140/92.  They put me on blood pressure medication and kept monitoring me weekly.  Then it kept rising 155/98 so I was put on bedrest and was monitored twice  a week.  One night I called the dr. and told her that I didnt feel well and that I had an awful headache.  My husband also said my skin coloring was turning yellow.  My dr. sent me to labor and delivery.  I was showing protein in my urine and they did blood work.  The blood work showed my kindey and liver were not functioning correctly due to the high blood pressure and by this time when blood work results came back a few hrs later my blood pressure hit 165/114 and my daughter arrived by emergency c-section in 15 minutes at 35 weeks.
  • I was sent to the hospital for monitoring at my 31 week appointment my BP was 160/100.  I was released and sent home on bedrest. oh and to complete a 24 hr urine catch.   I went to my MFM appointment two days later and they put me on labetalol- my urine catch showed no proteins.  So I was on bedrest- my BP continued to rise little by little.  I did another urine catch at 34 weeks- it showed higher levels of protein.  At 34 wk 3 days,  I started having symptoms- headache and visual problems- and my BP was 178/110.  So I  called my OB- he sent me to L&D.  Our boys were born that night.  They spent 17 days in the NICU- only needing to learn to eat.

    Edit to add:

I still had high BP after they were born and was on three meds for 3 weeks after, then only 1 med until 3 months AFTER my boys were born.
