DCP to the rescue/Need gift recs

I think we have the best DCP ever. Sunday turned into a disaster when DH could not get out of bed (reoccuring back issues) and I was scheduled to be on a noon flight to Boston to give a presentation at a conference. There was no availability on any later flights and we were in a panic. A friend took DH to the hospital and luckily our DCP answered our panicky 8:30am phone call and was happy to take DD. I felt so bad even asking because she is right in the middle of moving but we knew DD would give anyone else a hard time since both DH and I would be gone. DCP took care of her all day, brought DD back to our house, fixed DH and DD dinner and even gave her a bath.

Then Monday she offered to go grocery shopping for DH, took care of DD for extended time so DH could go get yet another MRI and see the doctor. Plus, she made dinner. DH tried to give her cash and she flat out refused to take it. So, what is a nice house warming gift we can give them? Or do I just give her a nice thank you card with cash inside? I am open to other suggestions.

I was seriously so stressed out about DH being at the hospital and trying to get ready to leave that the only thing that made things better is I knew that DD was totally happy with DCP and her family and that if she needed to stay the night it was no big deal.

Re: DCP to the rescue/Need gift recs

  • Wow, she deserves DCP of the year!!  If she won't take cash, what about a gift card to a place she could use for the new house...Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc?  That with a card and maybe a nice bottle of wine or treat would probably be appreciated.

  • Wow - that's was truly awesome of her! I gift card to a home store (particularly if you know one she likes), Target or a splurgey restaurant come to mind.
  • Visa gift card in a thank you card, and, a BIG Christmas bonus or birthday gift!

  • since she refused cash, I'd give her a gift card, to a home store or Target or a similar place, and also a very nice Christmas/Hanukkah/Holiday bonus.

    hope your DH is better!

  • I hope DH feels better soon!

I agree with the PP's about getting a gift card to a home store.  Another thing you could do is to cook a meal for her.  We all know how hectic is when your moving!
