When did you introduce berries?

What age is it safe to introduce berries? DH brought home baby food with raspberries, and I'm nervous to introduce them this early. We have no food allergies on either side of the family.

Re: When did you introduce berries?

  • We did berries around 10 months but we are dealing with some known allergies already.

I think there is something out there that says that berries in baby food is safe since it's been treated.  I can't remember where I read that though.

FWIW, Alex is allergic to eggs, beef, and lentils... but berries are his best friend!

  • I can't remember exactly, but pretty early on. I started with blueberries and they've had raspberries too. We started solids at 6 months, so I probably got the them around 7 months, but I'm sure sooner is fine. It's just strawberries that they recommend waiting on as far as I know.

  • Most berries were introduced around 8 months I think.  My pedi said she wasn't "a fan" of introducing berries early....but we don't have allergies on either side of our family.  I waited to give them strawberries until they were a year old.

  • Around 7/8 months, for sure.  No allergies in either family.  I did lots of puree combos, like pear/raspberry, banana/strawb, etc.

  • We just did blueberries this past week!
  • We did most berries at 8 monts too (other than strawberry) and one of my boys gets a rash... Dr said he should grow out of it but it is a bummer.

  • We started them pretty early on, around 6-7 months...our pedi is in favor of not holding back on the common allergy-causing foods but just being very observant when introducing them.  One of my boys got a rash with strawberries but then I tried organic ones (instead of just the ones mixed in with the store-bought purees) and then he didn't seem to have a problem.
