Hannah's 5th birthday party is this weekend and I have totally dropped the ball on the cake. It's a Little Mermaid themed party. I can't make anything cute to save my life. My other problem is that I don't want to order it from a bakery, as I don't want it made on equipment that processes nuts. Any recommendations for such short notice?

I was going to say check with haggens since they are great with short notice stuff, but you said no bakery. If I didnt have so much to do for the weekend already I would help you out.
Good luck. I am sure you can come up with something. Maybe you could just do some cupcakes? maybe frost them and coat them in crushed graham crackers and sugar to make it look like sand and drop some candy seashells on them?

I have a friend that is just started up her custom cakes business - not sure if she'll be able to do it on short notice, but she is very fairly priced and worth contacting. PM me and I will give you her info.
I love Dawn's idea of doing cupcakes with "sand & shells" on top in the party colors. I have a friend that has a cupcake business. Look for Kelli's Kupcakes on Facebook. She is in the Bothell area. You can also PM me for her info.
I sent you a FB message... But noe that I can get in to the bump... I would just make a plain cake whatever you like an then print out little mermaid characters and stick them on skewers an decorate the cake with that. You could always frost it blue like water or use raw sugar to make it look like sand.
