I'm so sorry things aren't looking well right now. I agree that you should get a second opinion before you do anything.
Your numbers should not have quadrupled. The higher your numbers are the slower they are to double. I've read as much as 4-5 days to double or more once they've reached 6,000 (and maybe even less than that). I don't know how much time was between your 2 tests but I'm holding out a little hope for you.
ETA: I also had 2 miscarriages last year so I do understand how you are feeling. ((HUGS))
I have been doing a lot of research, trying not to lose hope. I too found that information.....waiting for my OB/GYN to call me. Hoping for a miracle....but I am just so tired of crying, and feeling sad, and keep on finding out bad news instead of good....it just SUCKS.
This is what I found....maybe there is hope?
HCG Calculator
In most normal pregnancies at hCG levels below 1,200 mIU/ml the hCG usually doubles every 48-72 hours and it normally increases by at least 60% every two days.
In many early pregnancies, the hCG level will double every 31 to 72 hours. As the pregnancy progresses, hCG levels rise and the doubling time increases.
NORMAL HCG DOUBLING TIMES
HCG Levels
DOUBLING TIME EXPECTED
Under 1,200 mIU/ml
Between 30 and 72 Hours
1200-6000 mIU/ml
Between 72 and 96 Hours
Over 6,000 mIU/ml
Over 96 Hours
hCG levels rise during the first 6 to 10 weeks of pregnancy then decline slowly during the second and third trimesters.
As your pregnancy develops, the increase slows down significantly. Between 1,200 and 6,000 mIU/ml serum, the hCG usually takes about 72-96 hours to double, and above 6,000 mIU/ml, the hCG often takes over four or more days to double. It makes little sense to follow the hCG values above 6,000 mIU/ml as at this point the increase is normally slower and not related to how well the pregnancy is doing.

When almost all hope was lost...My OB/GYN called. I told him exactly what was going on. He said my numbers were normal, and they wouldn't need to quadruple. He said there is a big possibilty that I am still pregnant. He asked how I felt. I said I still felt pregnant (sore boobs, nausous, tired, etc). He is going to schedule me a second u/s for thursday. PRAYING PRAYING PRAYING for a MIRACLE.

*HUGS* I'm so sorry. That's just what happened with my mmc. Definitely get a second opinion, I waited and got a follow-up U/S 2 weeks later (and had to have a vacation in the middle of that that I could NOT enjoy). I'd rather know for sure than take action immediately, definitely.

I'm so sorry. This happened to me last year too. It sucks, big time. I would definitely wait a week and go back just to be sure. I tried to wait for my body to take care of things on it's own, but ended up getting a d&c when I should have been 10 weeks PG. I'm so sorry you're going through this too. =(

Saying some prayers with you! You only had 4 days in between those numbers and they almost doubled. So I think there might be some hope there! I'm glad your OB feel the same way too.
I know it's a rough road to be in, what I call, "pregnancy limbo". Keep us updated!
