My youngest is nearly 20 pounds and I really don't look forward to putting him in the Bjorn so DD can sit in the front of the cart - but I don't know any other way to shop with two kids! Any suggestions?

My DD is little, just about 20lbs, maybe a little more, and we still use the Bjorn. But at Target this am, I was watching other moms with 2. Some had the fancy carts with a little car and 2 seats attached to the front of the cart. I looked at those one day but it was HUGE. Others had the older one in the big part of the cart with all of the stuff, and the little one in the seat.
I don't like either of those options so much, hence my DD is still in the Bjorn. I would love to see if anyone else has other suggestions!!
This question haunts me every time I go to the store. I'm going to try the Bjorn, but like you say, it probably won't last that long. After that I'll just have to take multiple trips to the store each week, I guess. I don't know what else to do!
It depends what store we're going to and how much stuff I'm going to be getting. Costco has huge carts, so I can put both of them in the seat part. If I'm not getting too many things, I just sit DS1 in the main part of the cart and put DS2 in the top seat part. If it's a medium/big shopping trip, DS2 goes into the Ergo and DS1 sits in the seat part of the cart.
I try not to grocery shop with both of them now but when they were younger, I would put DS1 in the big part of the cart, DS2 in the seat of the cart and a handbasket underneath the cart for my groceries. Worked well for us!
Grocery shopping = DH watches them while I go out or vice versa. We RARELY bring the kids and if we do, it's when we all 4 go and we can each push one cart.
Go to Costco. They have twin seats in the front of the cart.
I can't see myself ever pushing the gigantic stroller with the car or two extra seats.
You might want to invest in an Ergo. You could wear one of them on your back.
ETA: I don't really shop with both kids. If all four of us go DD goes in the cart while DH pushes DS in a stroller (if I need a lot of stuff) or DS goes in the front of the cart and DD goes in the back of her cart in the infant seat (if we only need a few things). DS goes to bed at 7PM, so I often shop alone after bedtime.
Though I do not have 2u2, each of my sets are close, so here is my 2 cents!
I honestly think it is so much easier to wear DD3 - she is 14 months but is only 18 lbs. It is easier for me because DD2 can then sit in the cart. If I have DD1 & DD2 walking there is inevitably trouble. It is easiest logistics wise to ear one, one sits & then I only really have to sorry about the "loose" one.
I do try to schedule things so DH can keep all or at least 2 of the kids, but lately it has not worked out this way.
I have 18 month twins and do 95% of my shopping alone with them. There's several ways I have done/do it:
- push the double stroller and pull the shopping cart - I do it this way for large grocery shopping trips.
- double stroller and carry a large shopping bag or basket for groceries
- wear one on my back in Ergo and have one sit in the cart
- shop at sam's club and kroger where they have the large carts with two seats
- I complained to my local Publix about their lack of carts for families with more than one child. They purchased some double seaters.
- One sits in the front seat and one sits in a booster seat in the large part of the shopping cart. It's a simple booster that I can buckle onto the back of the cart and then buckle LO into the seat so she doesn't stand. I put some groceries in the large part near her and in baskets underneath the shopping cart. You could always use the infant seat for you infant. He may be too big for it to be safe in the car, but it's fine for grocery shopping.
I'm now trying to figure out how I'll do it with 3 when baby comes this winter!
This is a great post! I went to target about 3 weeks ago and just had 2 carts. It was insane!!! I felt like one of the extreme couponing ladies. I will never do that again. I'm a single mom so I don't always have the option of having someone watch the kids while I go to the store. I like the hand basket at the bottom of the cart idea.
