Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How long...

Do you let your LO in their crib before you count the nap as a fail?  DD has been in her crib for the past 30 minutes babbling, but she isn't asleep.  Would you go in and get her?  I put her down 3 hours after she woke from her morning nap.  Normally she gives me a 1 hour nap, but today nothing.

Re: How long...

  • I leave Aubrey in there until she starts bawling. Sometimes she just needs to crawl around and get some energy out. I also peek in to make sure she didnt throw out her blanket or pacifer, which she uses during naps GL!

  • Mine usually spends the first 30 min. quietly playing then falls asleep. If he ever went past an hour of quiet play, I'd probably get him up and try the nap again later.

Sometimes Gideon is tired but he won't actually sleep. In those moments, he just sits on my lap and rests. After 20-30 minutes he goes back to playing, happy as a lark. If your LO woke up 3 hours ago, she's probably not tired.

  • Makaia hates her crib, and refuses to sleep in it, she has to be exhausted and half asleep to even put her in it. When we do try, after a hour we call it a wash.

This.  My DD goes about 4 hours but with everything, every child is different.  I would wait a little bit more and see if she falls asleep.  If not, I would try again later...  I usually just follow DD's cues.  If she starts acting crabby or giving me tired signs then it's time.
