Trouble dressing your baby?

My LO wants to turn over and crawl away when I dress her and she has a fit.  Sometimes it takes a long time to dress her.  I give her a toy and it distracts her sometimes, but not always.  Sometimes it is a nightmare trying to dress her.  Anyone else have this problem?

  • Yep, dressing, diaper changes, applying sunscreen. My best trick is to offer him a book to look at.

  • Even though he barely fits on it, I still dress & change him on top of his dresser (obv with a towel underneath)  There's only one place to go, and that's down.  So it's easier for me to keep him under control!

  • Totally.  Often involves a game of chase around the house.  I just do it as quickly as I can and distract as much as possible, but if she still fusses, oh well!

This. For a long time I was changing him on the floor since he was too big for his changing pad on his dresser, but lately I've started changing him again on the dresser even though he's way too big for it. Sometimes he wants to roll over, but for the most part, it's a lot easier than trying to catch him as he's running away. My latest trick has been getting him to focus on sounds I'm making and repeat them. He's really been catching on to that lately...I'll just make random sounds like "la la la" and then he will repeat. Sometimes I'll sing songs or something too just to get him to focus on something. Toys and books don't work for us.

  • Ha, totally. Squirmy wormy over here too. Loves trying to escape. I just have everything to hand in advance and cross my legs, wedge him in the middle and have chats about what we're doing, sing songs, talk about our day etc.

Nappy changing is difficult, especially with #2s as he will always try to grab his willy and invariably there's poo stuck to his balls. So I've learned the art of holding both legs and an arm all with one hand and using the other hand to clean him and remove the dirty nappy!!!!
