Food Allergy

WWYD?

So we gave Sasha tofu for the first time on Friday with no issues. I gave it to her Saturday and Sunday just to be sure she could handle it and that I wasn't missing any symptoms. She got a little gassy Sunday night, but didn't have a screaming fit and there's been no mucous in her stool all weekend. This morning she woke up with a diaper rash. So what would you do? Should I continue to give it to her? Its just about the only form of protein she can eat (she can eat meats, but she doesn't like them so doesn't eat them). I know diaper rashes can be caused by many things, but i feel like maybe I should stop and give her nothing but peas and carrots to reset her system again.

Re: WWYD?

  • You could probably stop for a week and see what happens. If the symptoms go away it possibly could be the tofu. Hope you figure it out!

  • I would stop and then try it again.  Can your LO have beans?  We go through a lot of beans in our house.  I didn't notice how old she is but when DS was little I just squished them between my fingers first.  We also do a lot of hummus.

I honestly haven't tried beans yet. We're so behind on our food because of all of her issues, but I've also been scared of them giving her gas and freaking out. That might be the next trial this weekend though, 'cause you're right, its protein :)

ps: happy birthday to your LO today!

  • was the diaper rash visible?   The reason i'm asking is b/c we gave my son bread w/ soybean oil this past weekend and he seemed fine until yesterday.  He's been acting like he has a diaper rash but nothing is visible.

  • she's probably digestively sensitive, like my son. This is what happens when he gets dairy :( and too much soy..plus after a while his eczema kicks in too, but that takes continued exposure over a longer period of time.

My oed allergist suggested trying to "break him in" to soy products to build up a better digestive tolerance. For example, they make some rice milks that do contain soy-and that's what we started with first. Then we moved on to fruit bars that had some soy. But, when we hit the tofu filled ravioli, he started having diaper rash and eczema flair-ups.
