I called and they said there's no charge, but a friend of mine said she had to check her carseat with her luggage and was charged for it. Have you been charged?
No, according to my family members who work the gate. It should apply to all airlines.
Note: If they do try to charge(which they're not supposed to), take it with you and gate check it. By the time you get to the gate, they will just check it for free.

Most shouldn't. However, I believe that at least one airline is putting a weight/size restriction on gate-checked strollers and you have to check them at ticketing. . . not sure if they charge for it, though.
We fly all the time, on several different airlines- we check the car seat at the counter with luggage since it's a safetly item it's free. We gate check our stroller and there is no cost for that.

What airline are you flying? Most don't charge, but I can't guarantee that none of them do. I know American has gotten more strict about gate checking larger strollers recently.

This.
Have flown multiple airlines with DD and never had a problem gate checking BOTH stroller and car seat. However it has always been DH and I with DD.
Nope.
I've flown the following airlines with DD: Delta, Southwest, United, Aligent, Continental
None of those charged for car seats or strollers
