Cloth Diapering

Interesting diaper washing info, and a ?

I have learned a lot of this through trial and error over the years, but this is a really nice summary that flies in the face of a lot of the "normal" diaper washing instructions:

And a question. Does anyone use a "big brand" detergent that is NOT Tide? DS's bottom turns red if I use Tide... I use Country Save and it works reasonably well (and I can find it locally, which is always nice), but I do have occasional ammonia issues. I'm wondering if there's a more powerful detergent would work better without affecting DS's skin.

  • Have you tried Planet? It's not as big name, but it's readily available and CD safe so far as I know.

We use Tide because it works best for us. RnG just wasn't getting it all done for us.

I've also been doing the warm rinse/soak thing -- it depends on my mood. And I ust recently started upping the amount of detergent I use and it's so much better. I just had to do another cycle with no detergent to rinse better the other day.

  • Hm... Id always been told to do a cold rinse followed by a hot wash. I may try the hot presoak/hot wash.

Has anyone used clr on tpu? I have suspected a mineral issue and wondered about it, but tried baking soda/vinegar instead.

I'm very frustrated with our wash.

  • That article certainly explains why many people here use tide with no problems. Arm and hammer free and clear might be an option for you. I don't think it has any of the brighteners in it. I too might just try a soak instead of a cold rinse. Thanks for posting this!
