Random ? - boating while PG

So I'm this close to being in the 2nd trimester and my mom and step dad have a boat they take out on weekends that they've invited me along multiple times but I told them I was being overly cautious and wanted to wait. Here's my question: how safe is boating while PG? It is a speed boat but we'd take it out super early (when the water was flat) and my step dad promises me he won't go fast or take us over to many wakes. I do have a doc appt later this week and I plan on asking then but thought I'd throw it out to you ladies as well. Am I being a nervous nelly? WWYD?

Thanks!

I don't know...  I'm one to err on the side of caution, so I'd skip it.  But that's me.

With my first pregnancy, dh and I were on a speedboat before I knew I was pregnant.  So that would have been 4-5 weeks along.  I m/c'd at 10 weeks.  I don't think there's a correlation as that's a long amount of time between them, but I've always wondered.

  • We went on a family vacation when I was about 14 weeks pregnant with Jonah, and my siblings and husband decided to go parasailing. I was obviously not going to go parasailing while pregnant, but decided to ride along in the boat. Between almost puking from motion sickness during the ride, and pain in my uterus for the next two days (not to mention, panic that something might have happened to the baby), I was so anxious by the time my next appointment rolled around. Thankfully, everything was fine, and my doctor said it's probably fine to ride in boats. But, will I do it again? Nope.

  • I'd ask your MD for specifics. We are going to Lake Norris in a couple weeks, I'll be around 27 weeks. There will be two boats there, I plan on staying off the speed boat at all times, and might get on the pontoon. I'm going to ask my MD about the pontoon at my next appointment. I think as long as the drive keeps off wakes, etc. on the pontoon I should be fine.

I feel that on a speedboat someone might forget that they need to stay slow and speed up without realizing they shouldn't.

I wouldn't, but I'm a first time mom and overly cautious. We're going to Mexico this week and the guys rented a fishing boat, the friend we're going with is an OB and advised against any boating. That's just Mexico though, which is different. I'd ask at your next OB appointment, it might be totally fine.

  • I boated the entire time I was pregnant during my 3rd trimester.  My family has had a boat since I was five.  We go all summer long.  I never thought twice about it.  Of course we also took Cerys down there when she was only a week old so maybe I am more lax than most.

  • Boating in general while pg doesn't make me nervous, but a speed boat while pg does.

I know your step-dad promises to not go fast or take you over "too many wakes", but what that translates to him may be completely different to what you have in mind.
At least I know it would if it were my husband. Or brother-in-law. Or father-in-law. Or pretty much any man that I know that boats.

I was on a speed boat while pregnant with DS... I was about 7 weeks along.

I was very nauseous on the boat. I wouldn't go on the boat again while pregnant just because of the motion.
