It really depends on your LO, how they fit, and what type you prefer... some people like AIOs, some like pockets, etc. But i hated that response when I was just starting out. lol! I don't hear many complaints about bumgenius 4.0s. We started our stash with them bc it was easy to get good deals and they were pretty common. Although I have a very diverse stash, they are still among my faves.
I have lots of favorites Love my pretty WAHM AI2's- pretty and functional. Love my fitteds- super absorbency for naps/nighttime and paired with wool, allow more airflow. Love my flats- very easy to clean in my medium-hard water and easier to get a good fit than prefolds. Love my pockets(BG4.0)- daycare friendly, easy to adjust absorbency, stay dry feeling.
All that said, if I could only have one type of diaper ever for the rest of my diapering career it would be my AI2's. I love the pretty designs and the (generally) great absorption of the soakers and the fact that most of them will likely fit to PT'ing because of their adjustable size. Most of them even have suede cloth or fleece lining the soaker for that stay dry feeling. The pockets would be a close second, they're pretty easy too. But snapping the soaker in is easier than stuffing the pocket, which is why the AI2's win. My favorite WAHM makers: Doodle Dypes, Mamamade, Fluff in the Trunk, Twinkle Fluff, Bumboozle.
You could also check out BestBottoms, Flips, and Grovias if youre looking for ideas of non-WAHM AI2's (also called hybrids).
I have a diverse stash as well but I always go back to my GMD workhorse fitteds with a Thirsties, Econobum, or Weehuggers cover most of the time. Super easy, no leaks, and cheap!
My favorites were indian prefolds with Thirsties or Imse Vimse covers, and wool covers at night (Luxe Baby or other wool interlock cover). I also loved Bumkins all-in-ones. I liked Kissaluvs size 0 when she was just born. I bought seconds and saved some money that way.

This. Exactly.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the options, to the point where you feel like, "Argh, if it's this hard just to CHOOSE what CDs I want to try, actually using them must be nearly impossible!"... I always recommend starting with BG one size pockets. They're easy to get, they're easy to use, they fit most babies at least decently well, they are reasonably priced. So, they're a great option to dip your toe in the CD'ing water.
But there are tons of other options, too, so if you're feeling up for it, or if you try BGs and find that they don't work well for your baby -- experiment! Buy one or two of anything that looks interesting and give it a whirl! You might be surprised by what you like and even more surprised by what you don't like

Re: Whats the best cloth diaper brand from your experience?
Every person has a different experience and a different baby to fit. There is an awesome review sheet that the mamas on here made.
