I made a diaper wreath to hang on the hospital door. It has his name in block choo choo train letters, and I have blue ribbon and paci's, keys, cute rattle etc. We are keeping his name a surprise so this will be fun! I'm so proud of and can't wait to show it off! I also made two signs for his hospital bassinet. With blue card stock, scrap book stickers and print outs I made a name card (it's adorable!) with kid like letters and designs, and put ribbon around it. Then a BF sign. It says My Mommy is exclusively breastfeeding me. No formula please. Love, (his name). We also bought bubble gum It's a boy cigars.
I am playing the waiting game right now with not much left to do! Any more ideas ladies? Haha, I am enjoying these crafts! Maybe he'll be crafty too
Re: What crafty things are you doing for the hospital?
I never even thought about signs...hmm? Is this usual for the mom and dad to bring a sign to put in the hospital bassinet?
I am really tempted to buy a onesie off etsy with her name on it for her going home outfit, but I am not sure if I'd want a 0-3 month onesie so she can wear it for a while. Maybe I'll just make a newborn onesie with a cheap onesie I got at my shower!?! That would be fun.
I never thought about a bassinet sign! Do you think the hospital will let you put it on there? It would be fun to have a sign a bit cuter than what they have there standard.
I love the idea of a onsie with the name on it, I wish we knew the name! Maybe see if you have a local alterations shop that may be able to do a quick embroidery job for cheap (since you wouldn't have to pay for shipping, etc).
Yes, I read to put a sign if you are exclusively breastfeeding to remind nurses. I hope I can use the little name sign I made. I bought his coming home outfit from etsy. It's a blue stripedsearsucker romper with his intials monograms on the front. Super cute. I bought in it NB and it goes up to 10 pounds. I just got it, and its adorable, but looks big. It may swollow him up. I packed a few different cute onesies, the romper, and this cute polo type sunsuit that I love so he should be fine. Just hope the romper isn't too big and he gets a chance to wear it at some point!
I made a little "It's a Girl!" banner and a matching banner that says her name to put up. The Girl banner will go on the door and the name banner will go on the side of her hospital bassinet. I just used some scrapbook paper, ribbon, letter stickers, and a craft punch. Super easy but I think they're cute. I used the "It's a Girl" banner to announce the gender on facebook after our gender ultrasound (I'll attach the picture).
Cute idea!
Yup, me neither. It never even crossed my mind that I should be coming up with an idea like this. I don't know if it's a regional thing or what, but I have never seen this done around here. The most I might do is make an EBF sign for the bassinet, but it's not going to be crafty, it will be utility...like "Hey, don't feed my kids formula. Thanks." lol
LMAO ...that works too!
Hadn't even considered doing anything for the hospital, geez, we might only be there a day (here's hoping actually). There is a line for EBF on the name cards for the bassinet or they have stickers that say EBF, I can't remember which.
I am thinking about doing up a nurses basket though with some homemade cookies and other treats, but that's about it!
LMAO. Not a thing.
And the hospital does put signs on the basinets with Baby's name, and breast/bottle/pacifier preferences...
That's so cute! I may have to steal this idea
But without glitter and exclamation marks, however will those silly nurses know people are serious???
Edit
I know, but mine is much cuter! I am sure.
This. No need to make a sign, they have one that is standard for breastfed, non-pacifier babies, etc.
I'm not doing anything special per se, although my mom did make a baby blue wreath made out of feathers to hang on the hospital room door.

It's a cute idea, however, I thought other people are supposed to do wreaths and other cute things like that for your first day home. Like someone else said, it could be a regional thing.
The only "crafty" thing I did was make a basket of goodies for the nurses. I went to the Dollar tree and got a cute pink basket, fun sizes twix, snickers, milk chocolate kisses, dark chocolate kiss, york peppermints, and some other candies. I also bought a box of flavored teas and trail mix at walmart. In all it cost me about $13-14, so not too bad.
I'll just be doing something like this--we're moving 2-3 wks before my EDD, so b/w packing/unpacking, I don't want to have to mess with making something crafty to keep track of. I'll just do a snack pack
That's too funny -- it must be regional, because I have NEVER heard of this, and I am pretty into all things girly and crafty. I was just thinking to myself "huh, that would be kind of fun, but how on earth would you hang it on the hospital door?"
I was told it's a good idea to bring snacks for the nurses...
I am about to have DS3 and have never done or seen anything like this. I don't think I will start now either
I have never even heard of something like this......sounds like a new Bump thing that people will get overly excited/stressed out about now.
I was thinking the same thing.

Right, yours probably is cuter. But there's a good chance they won't let you use it because they need to keep things standard.
Either way, you've got way more energy than me. It never occurred to me to do anything for the hospital either with DS or with this baby.
Yep. This goes on the list of things that would make be laugh if I were an L&D nurse to be honest. Right up there with 47 lilac-scented copies of a 4 page birth plan.
Decorating the door is done a lot around here. Usually people bring things to decorate the door, a wreath, etc. My friend made a sign with her name for my door. Actually when we were touring the L & D the nurses were telling me that there are hooks for them to hang on.
