Runners - how do you handle bladder issues?

I can't seem to run a 1/2 mile before I feel that 'urge' to pee.  I try to make it to the full mile, run to the bathroom....and nothing comes out.  I do this for my entire run. That sensation stays with me the entire run.

FYI - I am 26 weeks, and hardly showing....so I don't have a huge baby bump pressing down on the bladder, etc.

Is there any suggestions out there?  Anything worked for you all?

  • I just ignore it.  Honestly I have the same thing - the sense of pressure/urgency without actually having to go.  Literally I will go to the bathroom, leave the house, walk down the stairs and boom, feel like I have to pee.  Since I know I don't have to actually go I just hold it. The feeling ends up going away.

I did a 5k on Thursday and felt like I had to go the entire last mile.  Until I crossed the finish and stopped running.  Then all of a sudden I didn't have to go at all.

  • Like the other ladies have said, I ignore it, but I usually stop twice to pee during a 6 mile run.

  • I still have this issue and dd2 is almost 1! Like everyone else, I ignore it and continue on. If I am running longer than 5 miles though i have to take a pee break.
  • I switched to running on the treadmill so that I could pause easily and come back.

  • I try to go right before I run, and if it pops up again during the run, I just ignore it (or if I'm on the treadmill, pause and hit the potty!) I've found that it does go away... I ran a 10k on Saturday and it was there for the first mile, but I didn't notice it after that.

  • I always stopped at the Burger King that was one mile from my house. Then I continued running. McDonalds was at Mile 2.5 (if I was doing an out-and-back 5-miler). I started having to pee more from around week 8 and it only gets worse as you get farther along. I wasn't able to ignore the urge to pee more than a half mile. If I had to turn around, I did. Can you find a restaurant or a gas station or something?
