I will likely be working on baby #2 sooner than later. That being said, what things will I want to hold on to and what type of things will I want to replace.
Maybe I'm being a little silly but even though I have packed up all her clothes with no intention of giving them away, I have a feeling that if I have another girl a year from now, I'm likely to want to buy her new clothes. Not really sure.
Am I better off replacing the major items later. I know the products are continuously changing for safety reasons. Is there anything I should know about adding a new baby to the mix so soon?
Re: Since we are birth control free...
Um... keep and re-use everything! We certainly are. There are some things that we will replace. Bibs, washcloths, anything stained or very worn but apart from that this second child will use everything that DS used, even if it's a girl.
We will obviously be buying another stroller as the one we have is a single. Mountain Buggy are releasing their +one in August this year so we'll probably buy that and sell our Urban Jungle.
I saved everything except what was obviously too used looking. I noticed that with #2 shopping isn't as much fun- because it is too busy with 2 kids. Keep and reuse everything.

We kept everything. Even stained bibs from my DS that my DD now uses.
Kids get messy when they're learning to eat, why spend money on something like that, especially ones that only get used around the house.
We only got new clothes, since my 2nd was the opposite sex of the first. She uses the blue exersaucer, carseat, etc. I think it's a complete waste of money to get something new like that.

We are having another girl and will be reusing everything. We purposely chose gender neutral carseats/stroller/jumperoo/highchair/nursery bedding, everything, so it could be reused with future babies instead of spending all that money again. As far as clothes, we will be reusing everything that is in decent shape - even things that are stained, those will just be play clothes around the house and not going out clothes.
The only things we're not reusing are bottle nipples and pacifiers. We will probably need a second baby monitor and are weighing the options for double strollers, but that's about it.

Why wouldn't you reuse clothes? Just wash them again. Throw away anything that looks dingy if that bothers you - but I wouldn't not use perfectly good clothes just because they aren't brand new. That is silly. I'm sure your next child (boy or girl) will have plenty of new clothes to wear. No sense in re-purchasing the basics like onesies and pajamas and jeans if you already have that stuff. Shoot, I had a boy as #2 and I still pawned some of my daughter's clothes off on him (white onsies, basics that could pass as gender neutral). And I happily accepted many hand-me-downs from friends.
Luckily, when we had DD we were really good about buying our "big" items (infant carseat, high chair, pack 'n play, swing, play mat) in gender neutral colors. So thankfully we just reused all of that. We just washed everything really well, made sure we had all of the parts, and reused
.
This we had to buy doubles of:
* a second crib, bedding, sheets, etc
* a second dresser/changing table combo
* a second convertible carseat
Obviously I had to buy almost all new clothes since he wasn't a girl. I also bought other boy-ish accessories (blankets, hats, etc)...
I am thrilled I have one of each, but had DS been a girl it would have saved us a LOT of money. If we have #3 I will happily reuse what I have for DS or DD.
