if you have two boys...

how in the world do you keep their socks from mixing up?!?  I made the mistake of buying the same brand/style of socks for each boy and they are getting all sorts of mixed up.  Do you buy two different brands/styles, write their name on them...what is the secret?  and does it get worse when you have two boys in undies? I bet both boys will be in 2T/3T undies.  DS1 is no where near growing out of his.

Re: if you have two boys...

  • So far, they are way different in size of socks.....but all of the twin's socks have sizes on the bottom (like the grip part), and if I buy matching for Nat, I only do so if they have the size on them.  It's a headache, for sure.  Right now I was all their clothes together, but I originally bought lingerie bags to wash them, and used that when the twins were little - more so to prevent losing them.

  • We used to get them mixed up all the time.  I got sick of it and ditched all the tiny socks and just put them both in the same ones.  I just bought a ton of all one brand/style/size.  DS2 is starting to potty train and I full intend to have them just share underwear, too.  It's kind-of gross, but whatever.  DS2 already wants to wear undies and I just let him wear DS1's.  I know if they each had their own there would be a constant battle over wanting what the other one has and I'm not about to try and keep them separate.  DS1 is still in his 2T/3T underwear and that's the same size DS2 needs.

They're only a size apart in clothes as it is and I'm pretty sure they'll be sharing tops in no time.  They already share shorts and some pajamas.  DS1 is quite a bit taller so they each have their own pants, though.

  • I have two girls, but same idea for this lol! Right now their socks are far enough apart in size that I can somewhat tell the difference (sometimes I have to look closely). I'm sure when I get new ones in the fall they'll be in the same sock size and at that point I'll  likely combine the sock drawers and just have them share. Save myself the headache of trying to sort them when half the time they grab each other's stuff anyway.

  • DS1 had Hanes written in green and DS2 had it written in red, but now they wear the same size so I just try to divide them as evenly as I can. They both can wear the same size underwear but I just buy different characters so I can tell them apart.

  • My boys are 1 size apart in socks and due to that I wash their laundry separately. They could also wear some of the same outfits since they are close enough in height/weight which is another reason I do their laundry separately. I have a hard time remembering who is wearing which outfit right now.  If I do happen to do their clothes together, I fold the socks at one time and obviously the 2 different sizes (even though 1 size apart) I can tell a difference.  sometimes I have to put 2 mismatched socks together to see the size difference but whatev. When they are older and wearing the same size sock they'll just wear each others.  DS2 wears DAFOs though so I do have to be pretty conscience of which socks he wears...can't have any bunching of a too large sock!

And for underwear, I'll be doing what a pp suggested...DS2 will wear DS1's. Obviously if they get totally stained or something those will go in the trash. The only underwear hand me downs will be those in pretty decent shape.

  • I have two girls (as you know) but the same problems. I finally gave up and just got them both the same socks and such. I try to keep the underwear sparate and got them different characters but they share a room and drawers and sometimes I just grab whatever is handy. For socks, they wear the same socks and i just don't worry about it. Of course, my girls are just over a year and a half apart in age and probably 3" different in height so they can (and do) weAr the same clothes in everything including socks and underwear.

. BTW - I killed my phone and need you to text me your number.
  • I have 2 girls. I'm fortunate that they can share socks. They prefer different brands of undies, but if they grab the other type, no big deal--they're the same size. It's also wonderful for clothing. The only thing different is shoe size--just by 1 size, though. It will be sad when they can't share all their clothes.

  • I buy my boys the Hanes Toddler Premium socks that have the size written on the bottoms of them. I pay more but I think it is worth it. I find them at Target.

  • Buy different styles/colors.

Oldest has all black socks.  He wears skater shoes, and he likes the short black socks.  Middle has all white.

Their underwear is more of a challenge.  Oldest has boxers and boxer briefs.  Middle has boxer briefs and briefs.  I just have the colors of the boxer briefs memorized since those are the only styles with overlap.

Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.
