Question about my Beta Number...

Okay, So I had my Beta done today so the Dr. can try to date the Pregnancy, because they are still unsure due to my prev. 2 m/c. And my Beta came back at 20,200!!! Okay, So, does that mean multiples or does that mean that I am farther along than I thought.... HELP!!!

Thank you !!

Re: Question about my Beta Number...

  • Without another set to compare it to, that number can mean a lot of things.  From my knowledge, that seems to fall in the normal range for a single pregnancy, but every person is different.  What did your doctor say about it? When will you test again?

  • They sched. me for an u/s to figure out if it is one or more.... This is all making my head spin!

  • You can't tell a whole lot from a single beta hcg reading. That's why doctors usually schedule two tests 48 hours apart (to see if they're doubling normally.) What's "normal" varies widely from one pregnancy to another.

  • I haven't had a BETA test yet. Is this normal? My first appointment is with my ob/gyn's nurse on Aug 4th for blood work. Then I have an u/s appt on the 9th with my DR. THis is my first and I am a high risk due to my age. Just wondering since I am seeing that you are about the same point in your pregnancy that I am.

  • I had a beta done to help date my preg. They are unsure of where I could be due to my previous m/c. I am also high risk due to my RA, and my Lupus....  But, I really just take everything day by day and listen to everything my Dr. says!

  • I was 4,500 at 5wks 2days, so if you double that every 48 hours, at 6 wks I would be right around there.  I think its in the normal range.

  • I concur that the normal range is SO large that that one beta number doesn't tell much.  Once you have the second number you would know your doubling rate.  The u/s will be much more effective at aging the pregnancy.

To the pp that asked about the beta test.  A beta draw isn't usually done unless there is a reason.  A normal pregnancy conceived naturally with no concerns usually won't have one as there isn't any need.
