Cloth Diapering

Sposies at night

As much as I hate to do it, we have been using sposies at night.  In cloth she wakes up screaming multiple times and in the morning her bum is all red. I have stripped, soaked, used brand new diapers, nothing works :(  I feel so defeated.  But I need sleep and I hate to see something bothering her.

  • I wouldn't feel bad about it.  It's a good thing we have the alternative to turn to if necessary.  I wonder what is bothering her?  Is she a heavy wetter?

  • I'm sorry this is happening. You have to do what you have to do!

Do you think it could be a detergent sensitivity?

Have you tried a double extra rinse at the end of your wash routine?
    That is so weird!

  • Shes not a heavy wetter.  Her fitteds are barely damp in the morning.  I have tried extra rinses, different detergent. Nothing helps. Its fine during the day, its just overnight :/

  • I've seen some people post about the acidity of food causing diaper problems.  Is there a food that she eats all the time?  Maybe something gets concentrated in her nightime urine and the cloth holds it against her skin more?  I don't remember if you said you've tried pockets for overnight (since she's not a heavy wetter) but a pocket with a fleece liner to have double stay dry fabrics might keep the wetness away from her better?

  • That's too bad - but like PP said at least there's something you can turn to that works.

My guy's bum was getting red in his fitteds so I started using the inserts from my DD pockets (from when she still made pockets.) It's bamboo/zorb topped with fleece. They're amazing for overnight!! His bum is never red in the morning now.

But you say that her diaper is barely wet so that's confusing, too. Maybe it's just a phase?

Hope you can figure it out. :)

  • We had the same problem with DD and had to use sposies at night also.  I found fleece liners helped a little, but we never did figure out why she would get so red at night.

  • Hmm I haven't tried pockets at night. I may give that a try once I get her all nice and clear and see if it helps at all.

  • I'm right there with ya. DS refuses to go in a night time diaper. He screams and has tantrums until I take it off (if I can even get it on him). He doesn't like how fluffy it has to be so I've switched for the time being.
  • I found a package of Pampers size 2 in my for later baby shower gift pile.  I have been using them overnight now.  I can't wait until I get my TT to see if that will keep her dry and sleeping a little longer.  Don't feel bad.  Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.
