Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Night sleep

I put LO down in her crib everynight and she wakes up about every 45 minutes.  I go in, lay her down, give her a paci and she goes right back to sleep.  Then around midnight I will finally put her in bed with me and she sleeps without waking until 7 am.  Why can't she stay asleep in her crib, but never wakes up when she is in my bed???  I am wondering if it is a bit of separation anxiety and she will grow out of it.

Re: Night sleep

  • Probably separation anxiety.  I would stop bringing her in bed with you.  It's just a phase and it will pass.  My DD has nights that she wakes up right after we put her down and then it takes a few hours more to get her to go back to sleep.  Then there are nights she passes right out.

  • Did she used to sleep ok in her crib and this is a new development?  Honestly, at this age I would stop bringing her in bed with me and do CIO (or Ferber, if CIO isn't for you) to get her to sleep in her crib.  Good luck!

  • I agree with the other two ladies.  It will pass.  She knows you will eventually bring her to your bed, which is what she wants.  If you want to break it, it will probably be a couple nights of *hell* but it will break it!

DS has always been a good sleeper, but has definitely gone through his phases.  We will randomly have a week where he doesn't want us to leave the room.  We just leave for 5 minutes, come in, lay him back down, give him the paci, and say goodnight again.  He always gets through the "phase".  Good luck!

  • I'm 100% pro- CIO...you need to stop giving in if you want to change this habit.
