:( Scheduling issue.

The girls will start their 3rd year of dance this year and LOVE it.  They are also signed up for Cheerleading and we *just* paid for uniforms Wednesday.  Problem...games are usually on Tuesdays in the fall.  Their dance director just emailed me that their class will meet on Tuesdays from 6-7.  The games are at 6:30.  :(

I know the girls will be very upset and wont want to not do dance.  They are in dance clothes almost every day "practicing" around the house.  They have had 4 cheer practices and are also loving it and cant wait for their 1st game.

I knew we would be busy with 2 activities which we are fine with.  We live in a small town and dance is 2 mins from our house and the field where they practice and have games is only 5mins from our house.  I just wasnt expecting them to fall on the same night.  :(

My solution thus far is to do both and miss dance on game days.  They have 6 games total so they wouldnt be missing many dance classes.  That or go to 30mins of dance and then quick change to go to games and be 5 mins +/- late.  From dance to the field is maybe a 3-4min drive.  I have talked to both the dance director and cheer coach and they are fine with either.  We will probably try the 2nd option for the 1st game and see how it works out.

Anyone else have kids in more than one activity?

Re: :( Scheduling issue.

  • I would choose choice #1 just out of ease.  They wouldn't miss that much from one dance class.

We choose to have 1 activity at a time.  So far, DD1 & DD2 have done gymnastics together on the same night.  We will see how it goes if they choose to do different activities, or if they can't go together due to their ages.

  • From a logistical and financial standpoint, we'll only be allowing each child one activity/sport per season.

If it were me, I'd have them skip one for this session.  Six guaranteed missed dance classes seems like a lot to me.  Life's full of scheduling conflicts...they may as well learn now that they can't always have it all.

Sorry if that seems harsh.  I just think that's a lot for two little girls whether they love it or not.  There's always the next session of either activity.
