My daughter is almost 2 1/2 months old and her father saw her once in
the hospital and sent 2 texts the first week of her life. Since then I
have not heard anything from him. I don't think he would be a good
father figure for her anyways, he's a gambler and has a drinking
problem so I am not upset about it. However I am wondering if he does want to sign away his rights how is that done? Is it something simple that I can get from the courthouse and have him sign or do I need to get a lawyer? The state will be going after him for child support soon so I would like to get this figured out soon so we don't have to go to court unless I have to. Any thoughts or experiences in this type of situation would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!!

I posted a thread on this earlier because I am in a VERY similar situation. Basically it depends on where you live and what the state laws are. Check out my earlier thread for some of the information I found. After doing some more research and speaking with my own attorney, I highly recommend talking to a lawyer (at least a consultation) or going through legal aid if a lawyer is too expensive. Good luck!
